Licking feet and butt Milo keeps licking his butt and feet. Its driving me crazy at night because he sleeps with us. I took him to have his anal glans expresses last week. He started licking his butt again this morning. I was feeding him natural balance GF duck and pot but he stopped eating it. So changed it to earthborn GF bison. he has only been on it for 2 days. But just wondering if the licking is from the new food or if his anal glans are full again. He hasn't been scooting and I can't smell him. He has always licked his feet some but it was better for about a week but today he has started it again to. Any suggestions? |
Robyn says Gucci licks his feet at night, and I quote "to soothe himself." He seems very peaceful while doing so, not digging at his toes.... Doesn't seem like anything is wrong.:confused: |
If he's just had his glands expressed, it could be a bit irritated, as they should definitely not fill back up in a weeks time, or he could have a parasite. Has he been tested in a while? If not that I would wonder if he's itchy from an allergic reaction to the new food? Does the licking coincide with that change over? It's amazing how allergies can affect all different parts of the body. Gizmo licks his feet too, but like he is cleaning them a lot. It's not constant, but more often then other parts o his body, which makes sense though because they get dirty more often from walks, or walking through his pee on his pee pads in the house and such. I would have him tested for parasites though just to make sure that is not a problem, and if its not then I would maybe consider a different food. |
My Oliver licks his feet a lot and bites his feet too. I figure licking is self cleaning because he licks himself after he pees too even though I always wipe him with baby wipe. The biting part I hope is due to him teething so he is obsessed with biting anything he can (he even chases and bites his tail!) Please give me updates about your baby. |

Check and see if he has dry, flaky skin. Mocha was licking his feet a lot before, when I mentioned to the vet during his annual checkup, the vet said he has dry skin. I put him on high fish diet, plus switched to oatmeal shampoo, and the problem went away. Since then this happened once more and I immediately checked his skin and sure enough, it's dry. So I did the same thing and he's ok again. So please check his skin first. I don't know about the butt licking, though. |
Thanks, I took him to the vet and his anal glans did need to be expresses. He don't lick his butt anymore. That good but he is still licking one paw. He licked his paw like this one other time and it ended up being a sore. The vet gave him a shot and medication and it went away. Looks like I'm going to take him back to the vet. :( |
