Teapots and teacup in same litter?? Anyone ever have a really small pup and a really big pup in the same litter? My little Lyric weighs a little over a pound at 8 weeks. (19 ounces) My Lark weighs over 2 pounds. (33 ounces) The other 2 are around 23 ounces. Lark is charting to be 7 to 8 pounds- Lyric 3 to 4. That's a 4 pound difference! Is this normal? |
Yeah, I heard of this and what's more, I've heard that the one that started out the smallest, actually grew to be the biggest in the litter and the one who was the biggest, ended up the smallest. In other words, birth weight is not a good indicator of adult size. Since you are weighing them at 8 weeks, you have a better predictor of adult weight, but do you know the ancestors, weights? Many breeders recommend knowing around 5 generations of weights before you make predictions. Anyway, I think what you have is well within the average spread. It would be interesting to see their weights at 2 years. |
My boys are from the same parents, different litters. Max and Teddy are twice the size of their littermates. |
Yes very normal |
I have the mom and dad on site, but know nothing about grandparents on either side. Mom weighs 5 lbs, dad is 4 1/2 on a good day. Birth weights were very close together except for the smallest one. She weighed 2.2 oz at birth, the other 3 weighed 3.3-3.5. |
Guinness was the runt of his litter both parents in the 5lb range... He brother was 7lbs last I heard and Guinness is over 14lbs. |
Yep, Charlie is at about 14 lbs now, and his sister topped out at 4 ! |
Same here, I get some big, some in the middle and some small sometimes all out of the same litter. It's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you will get.:) |
