bloating- due to air - quick fix don't let a vet or anyone else tell you that you have to have expensive proceedures to relieve bloating due to swallowing of air. Just give your Yorkie the recommended dose of baby gas med...I use 'little tummys' simethicone. It cost me aa large vet bill to find this out...and actually I came upon it on my own. Now my vet recommends it to her patients! |
I've heard simethicone used in bloating before and it does seem to work for some. Did you find out the cause of the bloating in your kiddo, btw? Should also mention that abdominal bloating can sometimes be a sign of something very serious going on, so while it's sometimes okay to try home remedies first - it's also important to remember that adb bloating can be super serious. |
Tibbe's had tummy issues at times, with rumbly tummy sounds and lethargy, suddenly jumping as if from sudden gas pain, sometimes associated with spitting up and has been to the vet often - very often - for it and he's been treated with simethicone that seemed to help. But as it kept happening, I had to find out what was causing the gas. Eventually his gas was determined to be secondary to an iffy tummy that is related to his MVD and liver dysfunction. We did extra an blood test for liver function as his normal blood tests for liver function were all normal. The extra blood test was called a Bile Acids test and his Bile Acids were higher than normal so we did more testing and a diagnosis of MVD was made and diet treatment started. The thing is, now that he's on a modified hepatic diet(he's too allergic to the hepatic food to feed him only that food) to treat his MVD, he has far, far less gas and noisy tummy episodes - maybe one a month. If the gas keeps happening without an obvious cause such as overeating or change in diet, you might want to find out what is causing your baby so much gas that he has to take medicine for it. |

Usually only large, deep-chested dogs get the volvulus or twisting with the exception of the deep-chested Dachshund and I knew that but almost every time Tibbe would get bad gas that lasted over 2 or 3 hours, we went to the vet for a check-up until his two vets let me know he was not having any of the other torsion symptoms and why most small dogs are rarely affected. But I still worry and watch him closely for symptoms of AB if he has gas. |
