Does the cold make pups lazy? So I am probably worried over nothing, BUT, Athena, 7 weeks old, isnt acting herself today. I mean she doesnt act "SICK" but just lazy. she hasnt been playing as much, although has played some. she seem to jut want to stay in be and sleep most of the day. i checked her gums, they are nice an pink, an she has been eating. she hasnt been eating as often however, but when she does eat she eats a good amount. Just instead of her eating say every 3-4 hours, its more like 6-7 hours. It is however really cold outside today, in the twenties, an my house is colder then usual, especially the wood floors, which I have all through my house. so maybe that is it. I did put a sweater on her and im keeping her covered up with a warm blanket. I mean is it possible she is just haveing a lazy day. I noticed my Shih Tzu seems to be more lazy today to, but I notice it more with her because shes usually up a lot causing caos as most 7 week old puppies do. |
Joel does get lazier in the winter but your pup is young so I would definitely keep an eye out for hypoglycemia. Although, Joel went a long time without out eating when he was young and never had any signs of hypoglycemia. I would just watch her closely and have Nutri-cal on hand too :)* |

I have Nutri-cal ready if needed, and I keep checking her gums and keeping an eye on her. I havnt had any problems with Hypoglycemia yet with her, but that doesnt mean I wont. |
I live in north Carolina an it doesnt normally get this cold. |
lol it seems I was worrying for no reason. she woke up, ate, left a big pile of poo and then attacked her older brother......lol.... Back to her old self. |
Zoey (3 years old, 5.5 lbs) gets "lazy" when the weather is cold. She prefers to lay somewhere warm (like on top of the heating vent that's located on the floor) or burrow inside a blanket. She'll play if someone is willing but if nothing exciting is going on, she'll just chill out. As ilovejoel says, your pup is really young so I'm sure that's partly the reason in addition to the cold. Last time it got SUPER cold, I heated up the microwavable heating pad and put it inside Zoey's blanket. She seemed to really like burrowing inside. |
I know mine get lazy and just want to lay around when it's cold outside, which it has been in Texas the last few day's. Today the sun out and they want to stay outside more. |
Gizmo gets lazy when he has to poop lol, as soon as he does its lift he just left a heavy load behind hahaha. |

Guinness was a hyper nut so I got him a buddy and he is now lazy all the time :p but yea now that we are having Fl cold days they both just want to stay in the dog bed that they never us curled up together which is extremely odd behavior for those two. |
My 10 month old pup Cookie is lazy on cold days, but I think it's mostly because I refuse to take her outside to play when it's 35 degrees with 20 mph wind in the middle of the day. |

Thats part of the reason that I am glad God brought me athena. My shih Tzu zeus loves to play ALL OF THE TIME....very active. I just get too lazy and do not feel like playing all of the time like he does. So Athena is / will be a good playmate for him. |
Not mine 1 Attachment(s) She can stay out a little longer bundled up. Here she was sniffing snow and it stuck to her whiskers. She loves it outside. |
