I just had a few questions. <3 Hello everyone! My name is Josh. I just bought my first yorkie living on my own. I grew up with them, they're just the best dogs ever!!! Anyway, his name is Tucker. I got him from a known breeder at 8 weeks with his papers. He's now 13 weeks/3 months. He's literally my child. I was just wondering how long house breaking might take? He does well if I take him out every 1hr and a half or 2hrs. But how long until he's standing at the door or barking to go outside!? Also, he's already 4lbs 7oz! Some lady at work told me a "true yorkie" such as hers, is under 5lbs. To my knowledge that is just called a teacup? Obviously I'll love him either way, but how big is he expected to get and also how big can they be known to get without being purebred? :animal36 :animal-pa :aimeeyork :) |
Hi and WELCOME to YT :)!! Glad you found us and CONGRATS on Tucker. As for his size, there is no such thing as a "teacup yorkie" - that's just a marketing term that questionable breeders use to sell more. A standard yorkie is a yorkie that is 7lbs or less. It's hard to say how big he'll get, but I'd guess he'll be in the 8 lb range or so. |
Well because he left his mom before 12 weeks it could take him a little longer with potty training and he may also devolope social and biting issues. There is no such thing as a teacup and just because a dog gets to a certain weight doesn't make them not pure bred. There are pure bred yorkies that are 20 pounds. Are his papers AKC? The yorkie standard for showing is not to exceede 7 pounds. Sometimes people like to think they know everything but they don't so just ignore rude comments like from the lady at your work. If you like reading there are some books like yorkies for dummies that really help. Welcome to yorkietalk! |
Hello :wavey: and welcome to YT. "Yorkies For Dummies" is the first one I recommend."Yorkshire Terriers: A Smart Owners Guide" is the second book. These are excellent resource books .Another book "How to Housebreak Your Dog in 7 Days" Is very helpful. They are not as easy to housebreak. Good luck |
