The poop eating continues... I posted a little while ago about my puppy eating poop. It was suggested that I use pineapple.. And I did.. And nothing happened:confused: Chloe has been eating her poop when she is in her pen and in the morning I can hear her "munching" on it until I run to pick it up. What can I do? As soon as she poops.. She'll turn right around and try to eat it! |
Ask your vet or go to Petco, PetSmart and purchase Coprophagia Deterrent price is 12 - 17 dollars depends where you purchase. You could try Walmart or anywhere they sell pet supplies. I give my Yorkie half tab once a day. It takes awhile but she is not eating her poop or other strange things she finds on the floor as in paper, dust balls, she tears her toys apart and wanted to eat the stuffing and this pill does help. |
Pineapple in the food helped me. |
Good luck - we have tried all kinds of additives and so far, nothing deters our 18 mo Biewer from looking for "dessert" in the backyard. For a while he only wanted one of the other dogs' goodies, but now, he's even checking out his own goodies to munch on. Grosses me out, totally. I don't think there is a magic answer that works for all dogs, but hopefully you can find an answer that works for you. |
At one point in my childhood, my dogs were eating the cat poop out of the litter box. We went to the vet and got something to sprinkle on the cats food to make it less desirable when it comes out the other end. I am guessing you could probably feed it to your dog. As another member suggested, they also have supplements in the vitamin/medicine section of petco for it. You could try those as well. Another idea...Bitter apple might work. You spray it on things you don't want your dog to chew on and it tastes so bitter that they don't chew it. If you spray it on the poop a few times, the dogs may start associating the bad taste of it with poop and stop eating it. |
I posted about my Lola doing the same thing a little while back. The pineapple never worked for her either. I got some samples of Artemis food in the mail and ever since she started eating that she stopped eating poop! Someone told me to try a food with probiotics and enzymes but I haven't had a chance to go to a petsmart (it's 1.5 hours away from where I live). I don't know if the Artemis food has that in it or not but it stopped her! lol. So try changing foods. |
Dog eat poops for many reasons. One of the reason I heard is that some dogs are afraid of their owner to be mad at them. Just pick up poops asap or monitor your dog to leave his poops. As soon as he leaves his poops, give him a treat and praise, praise, praise! If it doesn't work, maybe check with your vet to see if any health concern. |
I have never had to deal with the problem. There are prescription meds for the condition and there are also remedies you can buy online. If the pineapple didn't help then I would try something else. Other than being there when the pup goes potty I don't know what else you can do. |
