1st night of basic obedience
 

Not sure if if this fits better here or another area, sorry if it doesn't. Coco had her 1st training in obedience last night. I've only had her a few weeks so I've been working on recall and learning her name. All the other dogs knew sit and down so we are behind. She refused to work for her food. Stood on her hind legs and spun in a circle during the learn to sit portion. Play barked at every dog to play with her. Kept rolling over n over. Trainer joked she was the class clown. She wanted to see every human. The two large dog aggressive dogs she perceived as wanting to play, her tail wagged like mad as she play bowed to their not so nice lungeing. Then when the trainer asked me to loose leash walk her she does a army crawl. She seemed to be drawn to the giggles by the students. Maybe she needs to join a circus. I have to admit to being a bit competitive but I even had to laugh as she had a great time being very naughty and silly. I'm starting to think she is younger than the 1 year I was told.

LOL, she sounds like a true character and definitely the class clown :D. Too cute. With all that naughtiness, she is def a yorkie! What a playful little kiddo with a big personality. :)

Now I need to search for a high value treat that will hold her attention. The hotdogs didn't work for very long. She is a picky eater so any ideas I would be grateful.

LOL That's just so cute! As for the training.. I trained Magnus a bit before class started so he knew most of the basic commands. That might be the case with others so no biggie there! Your girl is just adorable. I wish my girl was bit more friendly like yours. :D

I'm thinking I will be repeating this class. That's ok it's good exposure to ppl and instructor keeps control of dogs really well and small classes. So we all got one on one training. I had to laugh when we were told to bring in their bed to teach go to your place command. She thinks my four poster mahagony bed is her place. Good command to know in theory though, lol.

Your four poster mahagony bed? I think you mean HERS. And she's being nice by sharing it with you. LOL A lot of members commented on how much space these little furries take up in bed.

She is a terrier. They tend to react differently to situations than other dogs.

Class is pretty much to teach you what to do so just practice what you have learned at home where there are less distractions.

I would be real careful with her around large aggressive dogs. They tend to view small furry creatures as something to stomp or kill. If she is really young she may need to mature a little before she goes to a puppy class. It is a puppy class, right?

The class I have her in is for dogs one yr and over. She has several loose retained puppy teeth as well as adult so my very experienced vet thinks its at least plausible she is younger. She is possibly a c.l. Flipped doggy so who knows but her vet paper work lists her as 1 yr. I have trained a therapy dog, agility and to the cd level with a biddable working line Aussie. Also trained my own service dog although I may wash him out as he doesn't work enthusiastic in public. He is a brittney jack cross. I think she my yorkie may just need to mature out a bit so we may treat this class as a puppy class. Sadly I know about how a yorkie fares against a dog aggressive breed as my brother was at a dog park and a man cheered on as his lab killed his dog. I am very against dog parks that allow mixing. Just so we are clear I think my brother in a big way killed his dog ( more to the story) the other dog owner was very proud his dog killed the yorkie" little bear" sorry this turned into a downer post I was very attached to bear. My brother knew he was at fault and went into a very protracted depression. (He allowed his dog to act very very dog aggressive) alright I'm done telling that awfull story.

Well, that's the characteristic of Yorkie.

Yorkies are smart but always want to play (harder to gets attention sometimes)

All you need to do is to be patient and prepare her favorite treats.
