Vet Fees As most of you may know I have a pup that almost 3 months. He needs his second round of vaccinations. I brought him to a free vet exam and they did NOTHING so I found a reputable vet near me and they charge $56.00 for first visit (vacc not included of course) and $48.00 and up each visit after that. I love my puppy and want to give him the best care but is this too much for a vet visit? What is the usual price for a vet? |
i think that's more of a regional question, 'cause pricing will be different depending on the area in which you live. around where i am, the city of sf, ca. the cheapest vet i know is at the spca who charges $36 per visit or petsmart's banfield hospital who charges $36 per visit if you don't have their insurance plan, or free if you do have their insurance plan. otherwise, most private practice vets charge $45-$55 per visit. vaccines, medication, and other procedures are all of course, extra. |
Its true that vets vary greatly on what they charge. I was taking Daisy to one that, unbeknownst to me, was known for its high prices! I then started looking/calling around, and found another one through a friend. She is MUCH cheaper (and much more personable with me and Daisy!) Yesterday I took her to the new vet..visit, urinalysis, meds for 7 days, nail clippings..all for $53. The old vet was estimating me over $300 for dental work/cleaning. This vet told me between $150 and $200 tops! Big difference! GOod luck, and definetly call around :) |
I took Zoe and her 3 puppies in for check-ups and the puppies 1 st round of vaccines and it was $82.00 which i thought was pretty good... |
The vet that i have charges $25.00 for a regular exam and of course extra for other things. Last year a boxer that we had started swelling and we didnt know what from,it was bad! Anyway for the exam, 3 tests and to put him to sleep(heart disease could not help him) it was $75.00. Tomorrow we take Prince and our boxer Jessie there to get their rabies shots and they told me the total will be $24.00. So from other prices I think that is pretty good. |

toby's vet visit was $10 and his vaccines were $8 each (so $16).... rabies costs more...... rabies shot was $12 |
WHEW I need to move. I live in a semi rural area and pay anywhee from 45 to 65 just to walk in the door |
Call around! If I go here in town it's $40-45 to walk in the door with $30 for shots. I used to go, but it really seemed that they were all in it for the money. I drive 45 minutes to go to my old vet (when I lived in that city) and pay $15 for shots and no walk in fee. WAY worth it and I trust her 100%. For anything that I feel cant wait - I will go to he vets here, but if it can wait we go there for sure!!! |
My vet charges about $40 Canadian for an office visit & $40 for shots, but if you pay for shots you don't pay the office visit. Plus I don't know how many times I have just dropped in when there was a problem and they check my little ones for free! :) |
My vet visits are only $12 but that's just to be seen. Shots or any other med that are need are added to the 12 The emergance vet charges $80 from 6pm to midnight. After midnight it's $120. just for a visit. When Gus had his accident the bill was $890. And that's without the surgery they thought he would need. If they had to do the surgery it would have been 1,200 more. |
When we took Ozzie for a checkup and his second round of vaccinations, our vet charged $25 total. This next round of vacc. will cost a little more. I agree, I do think that it is a regional thing, but Banfield (PetsMart) may possibly be the way to go if private practices seem to be costly. |
