Is bath time always going to be such a nightmare? Chloe is almost 4 months old and I bathe her about every 2.5 weeks. Every time I give her a bath she becomes EXTREMELY shaky and tries to escape. I know that the bathroom temp and the water is warm, so it can't be that she is cold? I even put bath toys but she doesn't want to play with them. So I basically end up rushing through bath time so I could get her out of there quicker. I try to dry her with a blow dryer really quick so she isn't cold, then I put a sweater on her and cuddle her in blankets. She shivers until she falls asleep. I usually give her some apples after the bath. This process of bath time makes me feel terrible though that she might be feeling as if I'm doing something bad to her. What can I do to make her ENJOY bath time? :( |
Bella is still shaky during and after her bath, even at one year of age. At least she's getting used to it and doesn't try to escape. We keep her warm and do the same things you're doing. I don't know how it can be made more pleasant... |
Where in the bathroom do you give her a bath? I use the kitchen sink, better for my back:D & I think they'd be scared if they were in the big bathtub...although they want to go in there when the fireworks go off. |

No My Yorker hated bath time but now it's her favorite just don't overwhelm her /him with them I give mine a bath about every week if I can how old is your yorkie? |
Bubba just doesn't care-not crazy about it but will sit still. Sissy shakes so bad I feel like I am murdering her or freezing her to death. But on the other hand, in the summer, when I fill the kiddie pool they both act like its the most wonderful thing in the world! |

I bath my 3 in the kitchen sink. They are much less stressed there. After bath is what they love the best. Swaddled in a towel in my lap as long as I will hold them. |
My (late great) Prissy hated bath time and would shake and whine, so I had to sing "don't worry, be happy" the entire time to get her through it. Izzy just hates bath time period...singing or not. But at least she doesn't cry anymore. |
Beau is always that way, don't worry, just try to comfort her as much as possible. Also, if you're doing it in a bathtub, let her wander around the tub, it helps with Beau's shakiness |
I have been bathing Galen every week to 10 days since I got him at 13 weeks He is now a year old. He still hates the bath. After his bath I wrap him in a towel and hold him for a few mins to dry off. He calms down and then I dry him. He is not a fan of the dryer. But I give him Cheerios. It helps |
I'm in the sink. Make the bottom non slippery for them . Towel or bath mat . I have one for sink. That really helps. And I run a trickle of warm water on her as I'm bathing her. Seems to distract her and ya know....feels good too. Talk soothing and treat too praising for "holding still". |
Do you put anything on the bottom? Maybe a towel or sink mat? My two aren't crazy about bath but they seem more "comfortable" since I've put something on the bottom so their feet don't get so slippery. I also use the sink since it gives them less option to escape or move around. I also do the talking/praising for good behavior. If it seems bit chilly, I heat up the microwavable heat pad, put it in a blanket and let Zoey burrow in it. She seems to enjoy that part. Magnus... I'm very thankful he's food driven. LOL |

What shampoo /conditioner do you use? I have noticed what I am using doesn't make her fluffy, her hair just looks weighed down slightly. |
I am hoping it gets better!! My 10 year old is a gem in the bath. He doesn't like it, but he tolerates it. My 2 year old, on the other hand, is a nightmare!! He has gotten better though. He's been getting weekly baths since I got him last May and he finally will stand on all 4's in the sink. I am hoping that he will be a pro by next year!! |

Zoey won't take any treats or anything else during her bath either. Once I'm done with her, she lets out her fury on our couch and pillows. LOL |
Yep lay some towels on the floor and let them have at it. I also point. "Mr.HAirDryer" at her for a while and then pin brush. I found it works better for me to wash her face , chest, and front legs first. Then dry a little with dry washrag , then continue on. She seems less stressed out than having her Face and eyes soaking wet thru out the whole ordeal:) I use Chris Christensen products . It's just what my sister the groomer got me to begin with. They are fabulous. After shampoo and cream rinse I use After u Bathe same line , it gets all the soap out and makes brushing easier. Then after drying and brushing I love theit coat link coat dressing. Moisturizers their coat and takes the frizzies right out.So beautiful. |
Thank you everyone for the great advice!! Yesterday Chloe stepped into her poop and smudged it alllllllllllllll over herself so she needed another bath! I put down a towel in the sink.... And she didn't mind getting the bath, AT ALL!!!!! She even let me blow dry her and when I let her out she did shake for about 10 minutes but after that she just went to play. Usually she goes to sleep. I guess it really was the slippery surface that was scaring her! |

Gracie gets bathed weekly in the kitchen sink. Started her at 9 weeks bathing. Each time she has been calmer and calmer. I just talk to her gently and say things like "there's nothing to be scared of.. feel how relaxing the warm water is." Finish then mircrofiber towel and cuddle then blow dry. Started her grooming about 9 weeks also. Just a little here and there like Dremel on her nails, clipper for privates and pads of feet. Again, each week she gets calmer and calmer with it. I think these things just take time and patience. |

Gracie has never been a fan of bath time. I did find that when I started bathing her every week that she learned to become more accepting of the routine. Just like any other behavior you are trying to teach, the more you do it the faster they learn. When I would go back to only bathing every couple of weeks she would act up. Just make sure you use a shampoo that does not contain sulfate or other chemicals because they can be too drying to use frequently. Gracie also gets a bath in the kitchen sink because my back cannot take leaning over a bath tub with her. I think being in the smaller sink makes her less nervous and I use a pet spray attachment that helps get the job of rinsing done much faster. Blow drying is a good idea. Try giving a treat when whole process is over. It helps them develop a better attitude all around. Have you tried putting a towel under her feet so she feels more secure in the bath. Sometimes their feet are slipping and the towel makes them feel safer. |
