Help!!! Anyone who is familiar with yorkies help me please!!! Hey everyone! My name is Krystal and I want to get a yorkie, i have done all the research and found where to get one that is perfect and safe, my only problem is i am very worried about its genetic and common health issues. How common are they? Is there a statisics that maybe 3 out of 5 yorkies commonly get this or that problem? I know of the 5 most common yorkie problems, i just dont want to loose my yorkie a few months or a year down the road. I am very loving and will take great care,..but i can't affford alot of surgeries if they risks are too common even with TLC. Can anyone help?:animal36:animal-pa:aimeeyork |
The genetics are all about the breeder. You buy your breeder first - then your dog! Good breeders do many tests for genetic issues PRIOR to breeding. |
I've attached links from our library that might help you. The key is to find a committed, reputable breeder who strives for great health, temperament, and conformation. The breeder should be doing health testing on their breeding pairs so that genetic health problems will be significantly reduced. I'd also recommend health insurance that covers genetic issues. I hope you find a baby that steals your heart away. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...p-10-list.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...-terriers.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...e-breeder.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pup...ant-puppy.html |

The best thing to do would be to make sure your breeder is reputable does health and genetic testing, knows the lines of there dogs and is known to have healthy dogs. |
Along with the great advice above, I would get pet insurance so that if something should come up you will be prepared. It runs anywhere from 20-50 dollars a month. I have it in all 3 of mine. I can easier come up with the monthly premium, than thousands of dollars in vet bills if something serious happens. |
