Just lost my Yorkie- Ricki
 

Hi everyone, I stumbled across this site because my yorkie recently passed away. He was a little over 8 years old. He had gotten out and after 2 days of searching and knocking on doors I received a phone call that my neighbor had found my baby in her pool. Its hard for me to except this, we have a pool and Ricki loved the water. Although we have a saftly cover installed on our pool and Ricki has a life vest he wears in the summer. We also trained him to swim to our stairs in the pool. I'm so angry at myself. I really thought that some little old lady had him and was loving on him and maybe didn't see my posts online.

I never expected to get the call I got.

We have 4 kids 14, 11, and 2 year old twin girls. We have had Ricki since my older daughter was the age that my twins are now. Ricki loved all of so much and he knew I was pregnant before I did. We used to joke that he hatched my twins, he always had to be on my belly. When the girls came home they were his babies. For such a little dog he has such a big heart. He never knew his size.

When we got the call we rushed over to get him. The twins wers so excited, but they didn't understand why they couldnt love on him. When we took him to the vet thet knew he was in the box, so when we left him therd they screamed for him crying his name. Even now they will go to the window or on our front porch and call for him like they are waiting for him to just home. It already so hard on me. It just breaks my heart even more.

Looking back, losing Ricki is like losing a child for us. He is in almost every photo somewhere

I'm not sure I will ever adopt another yorkie. But we all miss him so much. The reason I f2f ound this site is that I was trying to find his breeder. I got him from a lady named Deanna. And I read she is a broker that people have had an bad experience's with her. We got a wonderful puppy, she said he came from a neighbor that moved out of state. I don't know if that's true or if he came from someone local and I was just the highest bidder. But I'd like to find a puppy that is like our Ricki. If my pictures look like your puppys please contact me. Even if we don't adopt. I'd like to find out more about him.

What a heart wrenching story. I am so sorry for your lost. I know I would be devastated to. They are very much like our own children. I cant help you with your search for your breeder, but wanted to give my condolences. :(

i am so sorry to hear about your boy!

you sound so much like me, when i lost my Jax this past October...he got out of our gate and was hit by a car...i even called my vet, knowing already that he was gone...she told me what to check for and i did anyway, just wishing and hoping that he could still be saved...

there aren't any words to say to you except...i do feel your pain...right now i'm tearing up just typing this post...
just know that it is not your fault, accidents happen and they happen in a flash...my Jake was not outside more than 5 minutes, and the road is not that close to our house and the gate, he must have ran right out there to play...sadly the person who hit him either did not even know, or chose to drive off...i'm choosing to believe that they didn't even see him...i am thankful that i found him right away...

i'm glad though, that you know what happened to him instead of having to wonder about it...just remember him as the special litte boy that he was...

We took oir Ricki to the ball field where we spent most of our days and did a family prayer before we took him to get creamated. I felt so bad dropping him off. Almost as if we prayed harder, god would give him back to us.

The lady who's pool he was found him sent us flowers yesterday. It was nice, but everytime I look at them I cry. My husband just stopped crying. I told him he had fo stop for the kids.

Heather, how absolutely tragic. Every single person on the Forum's heart is breaking for and with yours.

Many of us (I too) have had a loss like yours. But, don't give up on ownership. I thought the same as you once, but my love and the memories of having an animal and the joy of that, far outweighs the thought of refrain.

Time heals.

What a tragic, awful story and I'm so heartbroken for you. We've most of us lost favorite Yorkies whom we loved beyond belief and some of us have lost our dogs in tragic ways. There is just no pain quite like losing a family member - a vital part of your life. It hits you right in the heart and the gut and just takes you out for the longest time. There is guilt, pain, loss, wishing what-if and rethinking everything, after which comes a long period of grieving and depression where nothing in life in the same. It's all normal and goes with losing someone we cherish and who is important to us. And what makes a dog so vital to a doglover is that they love so selflessly and so unequivocally and without hesitation or any agenda at all.

In time and with the passing of weeks, you will begin to heal and feel better and you will hurt less. The pain grows less and less and in time, these painful memories are slowly replaced by mostly the sweet, wonderful ones. I'm glad you know you need another dog and will be looking for another one soon, not to replace Ricki but as an homage to the special relationship you had. I hope you find another Yorkie soon and he or she is every bit as special as little Ricki was. R.I.P., Ricki.

I just want to say that I'm sorry for everyone's loss. I guess part of not wanting to get another yorkie is I feel like it's my fault he got out. I had had the flu that day and I came home from taking my daughter to basketball practice and I passed out on the sofa and my husband took care of the kids. I woke up around 1am and realized that Ricki was not sleeping with me. I looked in all his normal spots in the house then went outside calling for him. If I would of stayed out longer maybe he'd still be here.

It's just hard. Thank you for all your kind words. Hopefully one day if I find the right yorkie I would love to share him with you gals :)

I am so sorry for you in the loss of your precious Ricki. It is so hard to lose those we love and hurts so bad. I send sincere and heartfelt sympathy to you and your family. Your little Ricki sure was an adorable yorkie.
