Price Reality What is a realistic price for a healthy, well cared for Yorkie pup? I have seen so many post wanting Yorkies for $100-$400. I have also seen many ads that are selling their babies for under $800. I know that I already have $500 in my litter, and they still have to get 2 rounds of shots, worming, health certificates and anything else they may need between now and the time they go home. I have sold a litter previously and I wish I knew more then. So before I sale this litter I want an honest opinion from everyone that has one. I know pedigree plays a big role, size of the pups, and area of residence. I live outside the Dallas Metroplex area and their are at least 20 ads in the paper for Yorkie pups, I have even seen a mini-van on the side of the road selling them. They are not even asking $600 for thiers. I would think that they can't possibly be giving thier babies everything they need, nor thier new owners. I ramble but I really want to find a good home for my babies, and pricing is the first step to selling. That is usually the first thing people will look at. |
I paid about $800 each for my boys and I know girls are at least $1,000 or more here in San Antonio, Texas. I did not mind paying that at all for them - and I was also prepared for the cost of there up keep which I think not many are. Groomers, medical, dental, etc. I worry when I see a puppy for only a couple hundred to me I think have they been taking care of them, are they pure breed, what is wrong? |

Depending on pedigree, size ect... I have seen pricing from $800 to $4500. Realistically I would say 800-2000. Do you have babies ready now? |
I am in Indiana and My breeder prices from 700 for males to 1200 for some females. |
I got Chloe for $750 and I think that was a really good price, I would have expected her to cost more. I have never seen a yorkie for less than $600 and even the ones that seem to be around $600 dont come with any papers. I havent looked in over 9 months but thats just my experience. |
It all varies.. area, breeders, pedigree, One time breeders ( Bailey came from a family who had one litter, only) Some states are thousand others are hundreds, I would base it on how much you have invested, and what people are paying for them in your area. |
I noticed you live in Frisco (I live nearby) and I know that Frisco is a really nice area. Im sure you will be able to find good homes for your pups  . I wish so badly I could have another yorkie right now! Do you have pictures of your pups? |
Around here the going rates are about 1200 - 1400...although I paid a bit more - 1600... |
You'll want to recoup all of your expenses and possibly put a little away to build your program. I'm not sure exactly what they are, but I know that some of our really experienced breeders do a lot of testing on their breeding stock and puppies. I know there are the LP and LS test, along with many others. Once you get that list, I would call your vet and price out all of the tests. Then, divide that by the typical number in your litters. I would only charge for the tests that you have done this time, but any extra money can be put away for upcoming litters. Do you provide puppy packages for your puppies? How much did you spend on pre and post natal care for your mom? What supplies did you have to purchase? How much were your vet bills? What is the pedigree of your dam and sire like? Good luck! |
I live in North Richland Hills (Fort Worth). I got Rocky from a breeder in Aledo, for $550. When I was looking for him I saw pups ranging from $550 to $2000 (depending on size and sex, females were on the high end). |
Its been my experience that If you go to a truly good breeder that has top quality yorkies $1200 -$2000 is not abnormally high in this day and age. Just be sure to get to know your breeder |
My goal for my breeding program is to produce the best quality pups that I could. Both Dam and Sire have a good pedigree, there are 13 champions through out thier pedigree, most are in the 4th and 5 th generation though. I know that the further away your pup is from the champs means the less likely you will produce show quality, but we had one female in the ls tlitter that would have been a great prospect for show, the new owners choose not to go that route though. I used the same stud for this litter, and was hoping for a larger litter. I would love to purchase a female and a male that are from exquisite blood lines, but those are hard to get and right now I dont have adequate time to put into them. So I will wait until the time is right for that move. I was going to keep the female because she seemed to be on the bigger size and would be perfect for breeding but I am in nursing school and my husband said it would be better to wait to expand. My dam has had the best of pre-natal care and post-natal. The pups see the vet reguraly to make sure they are doing well. They all come with current shots, thier pedigrees, a 1 year congenital health guarantee, a starter kit and they come with a vet certificate. I pretty much grill the new owners and definitly want to help them as much as possible. I just moved to the area a few months ago so I am still trying to get my barings. I dont want to over charge because I am not in it for the money. I want to find homes that are perfect for my babies, and be able to recoup my expenses as well. I plan putting the extra into my program so one day I will have a top knotch breeding program. Thanks so much for all of the advise, for some reason I think I may be dragging my feet in selling these guy's which is why I am having difficulty pricing them. |
i think $800 - $1000 is a good price |
Chewy was $1300, and although my husband thought I was nuts ;) , I thought I was getting a fair price. $2,000 was my cap and I still would not go over that. I think 2 grand is more than enough to pay for a pet doggie. |
