Separating male and female pups I am going to have a female pup soon in addition to the male pup we already have. I am planning on having the male neutered at 6 months. When do I need to separate them to make sure there are no accidents. My male is already humping his teddy bear so I just wanna be careful especially because they are brother/sister. |
The female puppy should not go into 'heat' until age 7 months or so.....if the male is 'fixed' prior to her first heat there should be no problems....just do the math and make sure you are not cutting it too close. |
Thanks!!!!! |
"humping" Hi there, I read somewhere that young male puppies are humping more for dominance(sp) at such a young age......does anyone know. Does anyone know about this? thanks |
yes they do, Many males will continue to do so to other dogs even after thy are fixed. I have seen my friends dog hump her other two backwards forwards sideways and over the head. He isnt trying to mate, he is simple showing who is top dog. |
Actually I just asked the vet about this on Sat. Napoleon is only 8 wks old and humps the heck out of his toys. The vet said not to worry-its instinctual and has NOTHING sexual about it :) |
Oh my!!!!! I hope this only happens when companys not around!!!!! |
Humping at that age is dominance It's nothing but dominance. I would discourage it if you can. Mine used to do that too and she is a "fixed" girl. |
humping I figured it is not sexual, good grief I haven't had time to have "the talk" with him yet:) We have been trying to discourage but sometimes it is so darn funny....we will walk into a room and there will me our Max on his back with his stuffed frog on top goin to town.....its quite a visual. thanks for the info. |
