Genetic Disorders of Yorkshire Terriers This is a very informative link for all yorkie owners and certainly one that a person looking for a yorkie should read first! Genetic Disorders Yorkshire Terrier |
Every breed has possible genetic problems. The only way around it is to get a mutt from the shelter. Still, you can hedge your bets by making sure you get your little guy from a reputable breeder and have him checked out by a vet when you bring him home. Ruger is healthy, but he has health insurance that's better than mine. |
This is a very good list but Chiari should deff be on the list. |

Thanks for sharing. This is very helpful for people looking and others that have Yorkies |
Good stuff - adding to library. As I started reading it, I was thinking "I sure hope they have Cushings in here" - and sure enough, they do! Bc Cushings now is so common to all terrier breeds. |
The one thing I was surprised not to see was cruciate ligament tears. I think that should have been listed along with luxating patella; but overall I found it to be highly informative. People really need to think long and hard about what they are getting into...learn about the breed and be careful choosing a breeder! |
