The local dog park in my town as a large side (30lbs+) and a small side, (under 25lbs). Unfortunately, people do not pay attention to the signs and they will allow their large dogs in the small dog area, and vice versa. I've only taken Zoey there a few times. Luckily while we were there, it was only me and a few other small dogs. I've noticed that owners of the smaller dogs tend to pay more attention to them. Whenever I would peer over into the large side, the owners were all grouped around chatting, basically oblivious to their dogs. My coworker who just recently moved here, was at the park with her 2 Boston Terriers, and a large dog got too rough with her female Boston Terrier. She told me she was yelling and trying to pull the dog off, and the owner of the dog did nothing but stand there. My coworker finally asked this owner to get her dog off, and the lady replied "I can't, she's deaf" I don't understand some people! |

Ruger has a problem with some dogs, but size has nothing to do with it. His two best friends in the neighborhood are a Ridgeback and a Saluki, both much bigger than him. I'm more concerned with breed, and tend to be uncomfortable when he's approached by Pit Bulls and Rottis, otherwise I don't worry too much. |

but "pit bulls" were also used to bait bulls. The thing is 'pit bull' is not a real breed. It's more of just a term often used to describe different breeds - such as the APBT, Stafford, etc. http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/virtua...bout-pit-bulls Pit Bull Rescue Central Quote:
Also, please don't get any of my posts wrong. I am actually an advocate for the pit bull breed, and am utterly against BSL, and think they are awesome dogs (just not for me), but I don't trust strange pits around other dogs. |

I am very cautious with Lilah around any dogs. My first yorkie was killed right in front of me by a terrier mix that wasn't much bigger than her (our old vet's office had her up for adoption and they suggested I bring her home for the weekend and give it a try). |

Thank you for not pointing out my embarrassing grammatical error: make due -- meant "make do." Max and Teddy make doodoo. :p |

Breeder Talk - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community One very important consideration when it comes to breeding is disposition. Not all dogs have the right disposition. The biting would concern me. The actual mating process can be very dangerous for both dogs. With Yorkies, breeders often physically assist to prevent bodily harm. Also, girls should not be bred before a certain age, and you have a long way to go if your girl is a pup. |

Some are prone to dog aggression and I agree, just need to be managed properly. Many people don't know that their pet is dog aggressive and under what circumstances. Our neighbor's Cane Corso gets along fine with a Yorkie at home, but wants to kill my Yorkies. We tried introducing Max to the Cane Corso, both on leash, but Max was scared to death and the other dog was showing aggression. The owner pulled the dog back. |
My little one used to be very aggressive with other dogs. He attacked a staff and my poor yorkie ended up in it's jaws but he still didn't give up. Yorkies think there bigger than the other dog and wouldn't hesitate to attack a huge dog such as a great dame haha. When I take my dogs walking I carry some spray incase I meet a nasty dog. |
Owners of large breeds always say the little dogs start the aggression and the owners think it cute ,,,, but if their large dog started it wud be OMG DANGEROUS DOG as I have 3 yorkies and 1 gsd I get both sides of the coin lol |
cesar will attack other dogs so i do not let him near big dogs. if they give him a warning bite to say "back off" it could end up being fatal. Depends on the dog though. Some dogs he is ok with, but there are a few he doesn't. Must be some body language type thing. |
Max is 8 months old I am worried because he is not afraid of any dogs. We have made sure that he socializes by going to training classes and we have taken him to a local dog show where there were thousands of people and tons of dogs. The problem is that all the dogs he has met have been friendly so he will see a dog that is literally 30x his size and he will walk right up, get on his back legs and go nose to nose (in a friendly way). One of these days he is going to do that to the wrong dog. I am always on the lookout with him. Even in the backyard, he could be dinner for a hawk. This is my 1st small dog and I love him dearly but there are extra responsibilities with a dog this small. |
