Yorkie bonding When Kuzco came home he was grieving for his other family. So sad. I thought I had an unhealthy pup on my hands. He wouldnt eat, slept a lot, afraid of everything. So i cuddled him, let him sleep with me, kept him with me always. I talked to the breeder, took him to the vet, etc. he slowly came out of it but now he is sooo bonded to me. I have 2 teenagers. My daughter tried to get him to sleep with her last night. He cried and whined all night trying to get to me! If he hears my voice somewhere in the house he is frantic to find me. Anyone else ever experience this? I never have. I have to admit-its very flattering. But do u think it will change over time so my kids become just as important as me? |
That sounds like how Joel is with me now, and he's 2 lol. They mostly choose one person and everyone else is just furniture :p |
Aww He loves his Mommy. I found mine bonded mostly with me when my husband was alive and my daughter lived at home. Cali loves my daughter the most. When she comes over usually once a week, she is in heaven. Roxie is bonded with me and will usually not go to anyone else. Pixie is bonded to me the most but will go to others if their around. They tend to have their favorite person. |
My Gizmo is the same way :-) I went to my daughters wedding Saturday evening and had my SIL come to watch him, and he would not eat his dinner or anything, he just slept on my furry couch blankie till we got home. My husband also tries to win him over by spoiling him but Gizmo is always right next to me. I agree, they have their one person and that's it lol. He will play fetch and go for walks with hubby but when he's done, he comes right back over and is by my side, and follows me everywhere. He's 7 months old. One difference though is he sleeps in an xpen at night with music on, and this is just for his own safety as we have a high bed that I would be afraid of him falling off of, although maybe once he's a bit older I will let him :-) |
He just needs time. That's hard for him to leave his pack. But Marcie is always with me. I think they bond with one person. |
NOW-i was just eating my oatmeal. When i am done i leave the tiniest bit in the bowl and let Kuzco finish it. (well-yes-he is spoiled) Today I forgot. He started coming over to me and crying. Couldn't figure out what was wrong. Finally I got it! I forgot to give him my oatmeal scraps!! Boy Genius! Anyway- yes, My daughter plays hard with Kuzco. He loves it! But when he is done he comes looking for me! Our cat did the same thing when he was a baby. He is a Ragdoll. He went thru the same sadness in the beginning. I mothered him like I did Kuzco. Now he is BIGTIME bonded to me. So of course I have one on each side of me when I am trying to sleep! LOL. |
Tatiana is like that.....gets so upset when I am out of her sight! She has to be in the bathroom with me, under my arm watching as I cook, on my lap, snuggled against me as I sleep or shadowing me as I go about my housework. The only time she isn't at my feet is when I vacuum. She is petrified of the vacuum and I don't know why. The bond between us is endearing and I just love her to the moon and back! |
Jackson is completely bonded to me. BUT there is ONE other person who he is truly obsessed with and it's my dad. The minute my dad gets up and walks somewhere, he's right on his toes. He doesn't even do that for me! |
So what is it like to take such yorkies to the groomer? do they have seperation anxiety? |
Cricket is kinda the same way, she does sleep with me, but I think her favorite person is my dad. I'm not going to lie, it does make me a little sad because my other Yorkie Daisy was so Bonded to me! :( Cricket won't sit in my lap like Daisy did, I'm not saying I don't love Cricket, I'm just saying things are different. When it's bedtime though, Cricket does know her spot in the bed. |
I'm Lola's person but she likes to spread the love. She spends some time each day with each person in my house, guests included. She has to know where I am though. She could be cuddleing with someone else and if I move she's right there. |
I groom all mine yorkies myself. And yes, Tatiana has separation anxiety. She even has had a bout of Stress Colitis. I am at home most every day and we don't go out much except to get groceries and such. They all go along as much as possible. |
Yorkie's are often one-person dogs and pick out one person to call theirs but the whining and clinginess indicates he's insecure and anxious. A good program of life enrichment with great, regular exercise, puzzle toys and games and a good obedience training program that all of you participate in will get him working at learning and get him busy being active. Let your children train him and exercise him and spend time cuddling him. Getting your dog's anxiety level down with a life enrichment program getting him very busy and involved in several activities will help his whining and clinging to you so much, though many dogs still prefer one person over others. But remember that dogs, just like humans, habituate to sleeping in their own bed and usually want to sleep in that bed at night(which is usually their owner's bed!). I don't blame that little one for wanting to sleep in his bed and whining to get to it and you! |
