Some dogs are more chill than others, of course, and certain breeds (i.e. terriers wouldn't be the first on my list to recommend) but I can't imagine just letting your dog lay on the couch and never leave the house day in and day out. My dads Dachshund mix is very like that and it drives me NUTS. Sure, he's lazy, and he's willing to lay around for days. But he was sooo excited the other day when I took him for a 15 min walk, and he came into the backyard and started doing sprints. Mind you, he NEVER does that, and is fat. lol. A 15 min walk walk or a 15 min fetch session outside, or whatever your dog will play, will do a body and mind good. :D | Like you said some dogs have higher energy levels than others but most pups and young dogs have almost endless amounts of energy and curiosity. They need to use up that energy and use those curious minds doing constructive and not destructive activities. If a dog is not given the exercise and stimulation it needs at a young age the owner tends to blame the dog for being naughty rather than realising the poor creature is only trying to do what comes naturally. Eventually (if the dog stays in the home long enough) the pet will become a couch potato because that is what it's people expect of it. I am sure these poor creatures would love to go for a walk or play a game, like the one you took for a walk. They just give up on that ever happening.
It is so sad to see pets become obese and arthritic due to lack of exercise and poor diet.
You do such a great job keeping your little guy's mind and body in excellent shape. I love the videos you post of him. |
