Yorkie won't stop biting her bed!! Any suggestions on what to do? I recently bought her a pinkaholic brand bed and I know that she is a dog and will happen to chew on things once in a while.. But this bed is expensive! She gets in her moods some times in the am and tries to get to the bottom of the bed which is under the cushion. How do I stop this behavior? She is 11 weeks old. I'm also having problems in general teaching her not to bite hands/feet.. Help! |

I've heard of people using Bitter Apple Spray to deter chewing...I'm sure other members will have more suggestions |

Maybe she just wants some blankets to "burrow" under. Instead of under the cushion, give her plenty of messy blankets to "dig" and "make" her bed! I have one that has to be under the blankets or a pillow to sleep. She must like the weight or the comfort of the blankets and pillows on top of her! Oh, and make sure there are on crumbs of treats or toys that she might be trying to find in the bottom of the bed. |

Your little one is adorable. My Chloe does the same thing. I redirect her by giving her a toy to chew on. This works. However, sometimes I need to give her the toy several times. If she is in her bed, I also have a toy for her to play with so she won't get bored. My Chloe also helped heal my heart when we had to have our sweet Lucy put down. |

They will also dig to china if they think there is a treat down there that they are missing. These dogs are bred to be ratters, so I've always assumed it's normal for them to try to dig and burrow in their bedding. |

I tried covering the bed with blankets inside.. It works for nap time until she realizes she can get the blanket out LOL! |

She just a baby and will no doubt be teething and chewing is part of a puppy's life and is really too young to properly teach not to destroy an expensive bed. I would buy her a cheap bed until her brain is more developed and she's not overly intimidated by your attitude when seeing the destruction to the expensive bed. She'll do better during these early weeks if things that attract her to chew are kept away from her over trying to constantly discourage her or keep spraying the bed with things as the impulse to chew the bed is likely quite strong. Once she's a little older and has learned more impulse control from your training her, you can re-introduce her to the bed a little as a time until you are sure she's not going to chew it. After training her and she's older, a simple "No" will keep her from chewing but I would not leave her alone with the bed until she's well over a year or more, fully trained and well-behaved and well past her chewing phase. But 11 weeks is just an infant and she's going to be destructive for quite a while if she has access to things. |
