Do you put your Yorkie on the treadmill? Hi, Since it is cold out side I have Gideon walk on the treadmill. Sometimes with me some times alone. Today he walked for 20 min on the treadmill alone without a leash. He barked to go upstairs to the treadmill. After 20 minutes I took him off, he could have jumped off any time he has done it before. My question is how long is too long for him to walk. The most we have done is 30 minutes. It sure helps him settle down. Thanks for any advice. |
I have one that will walk on the treadmill. She started out at 5 minutes and now she walks for about 15 minutes. I stay beside the treadmill and can tell when she has had enough because she acts like she wants to jump off. When it is cold and snowy outside the treadmill tires her out. |
Yes, Milo knows how to trot on the treadmill. Honestly I don't know how long he can go, the most we have ever done is 10min. That is only because, he and I can't run together, so I have to stand there holding his leash, and 10min is all I feel like standing there for :). If I leave, he jumps off, only because he and I are joined at the hip . I do know he can definitely do way more than 10min, there is absolutely no sign of panting going on, even though I would consider him to be jogging rather than walking. :) |
I think it is a great idea but I would not leave him alone on it. Just in case he gets tired quicker one day or an another. Or he gets to close to the edge of the belt. |
Callie had a dog treadmill when she had her knee surgery a couple of years ago because it was just to cold to walk her for her therapy outside. She didn't love it but she did fine on it. |
Yes, I do occasionally on bad weather days, if I happen to be at my dads house. Jackson got the hang of it pretty quick and seems to enjoy it. I do still leash him and help just because he's so ADD and sometimes gets distracted and I don't want him rolling off the back lol. |
treadmill When I said alone I only meant that I wasn't on the treadmill with him. I am always right by him. Talking to him and encouraging him. |
