Grateful for YorkieTalk Hi, I've been a member of YorkieTalk for many years but never posted before. However, my little 'B', who is turning 11 this year, just went in for a cheek abscess that never healed and subsequently had 9 teeth pulled today (!). From this community, I found out all about the likely tooth culprit re the cheek infection; and also found great information on creative ways to feed him. I haven't picked him up yet today so can't tell whether his appearance will be different but have also seen cute photos of yorkies with tongues out from lack of teeth posted on this site. He's getting more like a little old man as he sites by the fireplace in his sweater... and now with fewer teeth (!) yet I love him so much. Just wanted to thank you all for your contributions! Aww, poor little B, hope he gets to feeling better soon. It's good to see you posting - and would love to see pics of your little one. |

Poor little B! I hate that they age! :( You should post a pic of him! I'm sure he's going to be cute as ever, and he'll probably be happier without the pain of those teeth. Please keep us posted on his recovery! I hope it's quick and painless. |

Hello and welcome to YT. I hope B will feel much better since this is done. Please post some pictures. I bet he still is an adorable little guy. Hope he feels better |

Little B should feel better in a day or too. I had a very senior rescue who had all his teeth removed and he felt so much better. He had a longer nose and his tongue didn't stick out. I'm sure he will look adorable. |

My first Yorkie got a tooth abscess and that was how I found out about Yorkie's dental problems but thankfully since then and regular tooth brushing, regular dental cleanings, I haven't had a Yorkie have that problem again and I'm on my third Yorkie. I'm glad you finally posted and keep on doing it! Hopefully your little one is feeling better soon. |

Hope B will have a speedy recovery! |

Hi everyone. Thanks so much for your support. Mr. B is recovering well - thank goodness for pain medicine (smile). I'll be happy when another few days pass and he is no longer has sad eyes and is again assuming the role of 'Master of all he Surveys' insisting that I throw the squeaky toy. (He will actually surreptitiously put one right in my usual walking paths - in the middle of doorways, etc., hoping that I'll step on it so that the games will begin!). I wanted to also say that he's had great tooth care - going to get teeth cleaned once a year, on very healthy organic foods, and regular teeth brushings at home (well, in all honesty once a week instead of daily). The vet said I couldn't have done anything else to prevent this from happening and it was just bone loss. So just wanted to offer that if this is happening to your little guy, sometimes even with the best of love and care not everything is preventable. Also, I posted a photo of him at about 5 years -- I'll post another of his 'new' toothless smile when he is feeling up to it. Again, thanks so much to you all - what a great group of people you are! |
