Waited too long I had appointments with vet for both of my dogs on Dec. 21. My Westie, Duffy to be neutered and Jasmine, my Yorkie to be spayed. I was really having second thoughts about Jasmine as she isn't very big and I have heard so many horror stories about surgery on the little ones. After talking to Jasmine's breeder she recommended another vet who was more experienced with small breeds like Yorkies, I cancelled Jasmine's appointment. I took Duffy and he had the surgery, came home that night and is doing great. By the next morning I couldn't even tell he had surgery. Because of all the Christmas rush, I didn't get another appointment for Jasmine and now I am certain she is in heat. She will be 6 months old on the 6th of January. She is swollen and licks herself constantly and has an odor she has never had before. There really hasn't been much blood. I think because she is constantly licking herself (talk about bad breath). Some on here have said their female seemed quieter and wanted to sleep a lot. Not Jas. In fact my 20 yr old granddaughter who is staying with us has commented several times the last few days that Jas has been especially ornery. She is getting so spoiled. We all cater to her. Even Duffy. Anyway, now I will have to wait until this is all over to get her an appointment. I thought when Dogs were neutered it took away all their sex drive. I have caught Duffy trying to mount her a couple of times the last few days. Whats up with that? |
I heard that they lose that drive too but Louie is still as active as ever and humps his stuffed monkey all the time. He tried it with Bella but she will have none of it! LOL |
I asked the same question when I got my guy neutered and noticed little mr. winky out saying hi and him humping. The answer I got was testerone stays in their system for a month or two. It took about 2 months for my little guy to stop acting weird when I had my monthly visitor. |
Also has he ever tried to hump her before because it could be more of a dominance thing then a sexual thing. That's usually what it is when altered males and females hump their little stuffed friends. |
When my shihtzu, Emma, goes into heat, Kobe (male, neutered shihtzu) will mount Emma and they actually get stuck. The first time this happened I called my vet thinking maybe they botched his neutering job (which would have explained why i can't get him to stop marking). They probably thought I was crazy, but they said that is normal in some dogs. I think you can get her spayed while in heat. My sister had hers spayed during her first heat. I don't know much about it, but my sister never had any problem. joan |

Some may lose that drive but, my aunt has a poodle that she had neutered years ago. A couple of years ago she & my mom went to Alaska and I dog sat for them. Well mom's dog came in heat while they were here and they got together. I was really shocked. |
