3 Attachment(s) Thank goodness we haven't lost power or our gas heat, and our temp is now a balmy 14ºF, compared to this morning's 4ºF low. I have decided, though, that I am going to have to invest in new windows. I have known for a long time that these 16 year old, aluminum frame, contractor grade windows are crap, but when I got home this morning and found ice coating the inside of every window in the house, I decided that it is really time to do something about it. Yes, really, all these photos are inside the house:eek:, and the heat was on 67. |

I grew up in michigan so I do remember. My 80 yearold mother still there so I do worry. Daily checks on her but very happy to be in so cal, although the weather report said it should only reach 74 today. Sorry folks. I had been looking at some retirement property in ky but may have to rethink. My poor babies freeze in april when we visit , don't think they'd survive in this type of weather. Keep warm. |

HOLY GUACIMOLY !! Don't let the dogs lick it or you may end up with a scene from "A Christmas Story" . . LOL That is just crazy . . we have some old windows too, original to the house build in 63 but ours are nothing like that. I would be freakin out if that was our house. You might want to turn up that heat thermometer. In order to heat our home up and down we have to keep ours set to 76. Its still a little chilly! Our current temp is 19* wind chill 7* and on the plus + side :D |
I'm surprised that Ohio has a gas shortage. I'm in NYS and we have had a surplus for several years. It is scary to think of what could happen to people in the northern states if we lost our power supplies during the winter. There are millions of people that do not have an alternate heating source. |

When I lived in Jacksonville, Fla we got a little chilly weather in the winter but nothing that required the kind of preparation needed up north. |
I am so tired of these freezing cold days and night here in Ohio..... Ohio: Last night DD's car was stuck in her driveway at her house. DH took her to work and I picked her up. Lets hope her bf can get her unstuck today. Plus DH's truck wouldn't start this morning... Ugh !! I went out and started it about an hour ago and let it warm up to charge the battery. It's This FUN ??? Oh an my niece and her husband are freaking out about 2" of snow in SC Really !! So, how is everyone else doing dealing with Mother Nature's scene of humor, lol ? :D |
SO, here in Panama City Beach, Florida, we started at 45 this morning....we have dropped to about 32 degrees now. It's expected to be in the teens tonight. Check this out :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: my office and Bay County Schools are closed tomorrow for a SNOW DAY!!!! We will probably only have freezing rain but a snow day none the less. Oh, my Yorkies pee on the patio and then right back into the house and under the covers in cold weather. LOL |

Oh wow . . really ! I bet that's a first !! SC where my niece lives they are closing businesses also. |

Vinette: were have been doing well with the freezing temps, this post was weeks ago but again with the temps reaching record lows we are once again asked to reserve our usage. And luckily we have not lost power since. |

I noticed that too . . though I left a window cracked but nope... it was on all four of them. |
What is up with Ohio and their gas supply? PA and southern and central NY have had surplus natural gas for several years. Many of the gas drillers moved to Ohio last year partly because gas prices were so low drilling had become unprofitable. I hope things get straightened out for you soon. Next week is supposed to be warmer. We need a break. Gracie acts pouty because she misses playing outside. I think all us northerners need to go out and buy some good sized generators. I keep reading about how at risk our power grid is. |
Bundle up, stay safe! |
Gosh, I sure feel so bad for all you guys with the burrrr weather you are having!!! Can't imagine that AND the power off! I certainly hope that the weather warms up. It's not fair that we all can't share in some of that cold weather with you guys( On a positive note: the population may have a boom, in like... 9-10 months:) ;):D |
It was -18 on my drive to work this morning and that not including wind chill. At least I haven't heard about anyone's power being out in the area. |

Not sure, I do know that my bill went down considerable (budget amount) I did hear that a supply pipe burst. They are limiting the major business so that the private homes get an the supply needed to heat their homes. Same thing happened last week or so ago with propane suppliers. It just bad al around this winter !! |

Many go out to shovel and act like it is a normal winter day and stay out too long. I too hope the heat is on for everyone, mine did not go out but many of my neighbors did. I went shopping this morning and the sun can fool you, we were at zero last I looked. |
Dang it, we were at 13 degrees this morning(that's COLD for North Texas!) but it's 44 degrees now, wind at 11 - 12 mph, which is still pretty cold when you are out running errands and loading and bringing in groceries and going back and forth from the parking lot to the stores. I got home, unloaded groceries, took a hot shower and am still chilled to the bone. But at least it's dry and no snow or ice. I do NOT know how in the world you guy up north and northeast and northwest of here make it doing all that you do all winter in freezing weather, with ice and snow everywhere and power outages and not enough propane for those that use that for heating! And others have to have home heating oil delivered and stored. If the roads are bad and you don't get your delivery, I guess you just have to do without heat! And then those that have to remove snow from their roofs and sidewalks and make a path in the snow to the car and for the mailman and for the dog to go out to potty - it must be constant work most of the winter with snow and icy rain coming so often! I'd be exhausted by the time I got to work. I used to wonder why so many people retire to the south when they get older, but I'm understanding more and more I see of these bad winters. |

Its not easy but we manage. I don't venture out that much during the winter months and I only do shopping every other week. Hubby normally will pick up the necessities like milk, bread and small stuff on his way home from work. But I always make sure the cars are clears and I do the snow removal and clear the sidewalk and the porch. The same as I do the lawn during he summer months. |
This is what I was talking about the other day. 40-42 degree water but I also heard if there is tingling or burning get to the nearest hospital with a burn unit and don't fiddle around with water the average person doesn't know how bad it is. More frostbite amputations in Ohio because people recognize it much later than usual, doctors say - Story |

My son will argue and fight with me about wearing his gloves, and of all things his winter coat. His attitude can be down right exhausting at times But I never back down when it comes to his safety. |
