Don't put off that vet visit PLEASE Long story..Jada was acting strange after supper Tuesday night, strange enough that I put a call into my vet. The office was closed but he told me to bring her straight in. (trembling and just acting strange) She had a fever of 104.3 and he of course did blood work. Everything was normal and even her WBC was fine. We were stumped so were thinking maybe she did get strangled and aspirate and the stress caused her fever spike. Vet gave her a shot of metacam and something else that I can't remember and told me to monitor her fever and if it didn't go down to call and he would meet me at the office. Her fever did go down but she still was not herself. Thursday night DH and I decided I would stay out of work Friday morning and take her back in. In the meantime I was holding her and was stroking her little face and felt a hard bonelike something on her jawline. I didn't panic and I knew it wasn't an emergency but was at the vet office when they opened at 8am Friday. Her vet and I both thought it was a tooth because she has horrible teeth. He opened her mouth and said Oh My it looks like one of her molars is broken and there is a lot of infection. He sedated her and low and behold it wasn't her tooth. She loves frozen green beans and it was one of those hard stalks that are sometimes in the bag of beans. I am not sure if its one I missed or her Daddy. She had chewed on it and it had hard ragged edges and it was wedged in her tooth and had shredded gum tissue and tissue under her tongue. If I had waited the infection would have most likely spread throughout her system. Moral of the story...if your baby is acting strange take them to the vet. ps..she lost almost 6ozs during this ordeal which is a lot on a 5lb 8oz dog in a 3 day period. |
Oh my gosh, Michelle! How scary! You are such a great Yorkie Mommy and you pay attention and notice these changes in your baby right off. That is why you caught it like you did. Bless her heart. How is she feeling this morning? Great job, Mommy! You knew. I tell people and vets that all the time..we, as mommies..we know. |

Oh, wow how scary for you!! I'm so glad she is okay and on the mend. Sometimes, it really is so tough to know when to go in and when it's okay to wait, ya know? I've struggled with it myself many times. You handled it perfectly and this is a great reminder that when a kiddo is truly acting *strange*, there truly is something wrong...whether big or small...something is indeed wrong. Hugs to you and Jada! |
Michelle I know how scary this was for you. PTL Jada is going to be ok! You were quick on your toes getting her in. Good post in making others aware to take their pups in ASAP. |

Thanks guys!! I know it was a really weird thing to happen and I swear Jada always seems to have weird medical emergencies. I have the best vets though and they always are there for me and know how over protective I am. He even waived the after hours emergency charge Tuesday night. |
Kudos for you & kisses to Jada! |
