Questions to which I need answers Hi Everyone, My questions are: 1. Why does my little Yorkie, Milo, want to eat only if I'm watching him? 2. Why is he 100% house trained but whenever I go into a store (Petsmart, Lowe's, etc) he wants to hike his leg & pee on something? BTW, 99.99% of the time I have caught him before he can actually complete his action. Thanks for any input! |
1) mine is the same. I stopped catering to that, since I can't spend 30 mins every morning getting him to eat. Not enough time in the morning before work for that nonsense. Now I throw a toy, which he "kills" and happily goes off to eat his food. 2) I think it's harder for the pups to resist marking in pets stores due to all the smells. It smells like a park in there with all the little critters in the cages and all the other dogs that have gone in there and whose owners did not stop them from marking everything. |
I'm just guessing here. Our dog eats with more vigor if I'm in the kitchen with him because he thinks I'm going to eat his food. We call it "The Food Game." I can understand the pet store marking. There are lots of other dogs that do the same thing in there. Think of it as you smelling a wonderful perfume or aftershave on someone. Your pet is merely giving the scent a "compliment" LOL. It's called marking their territory but which one sounds like more fun? :p |

Zoey sometimes won't eat unless I sit right in front of her bowl. When she was a young pup, I had to hand feed her for a while b/c she was sick. She did grow out of it but obviously, not completely. She only does it sometimes so I don't know what sets it off. |
Ha Ha. You're right. I am thankful that I don't have that issue! |
