Presley is in renal failure... So my beloved Presley is in end stage renal failure according to my vet. We have been treating his kidney disease for about a year and a half with pretty good results. But within a month he started to go downhill. He is almost 17 1/2 so I guess his age is also a factor. My vet says he does not have long but is not in any pain. We've decided to keep him home with us as long as he is comfortable and continue fluids for however long he is with us. I know how blessed I've been to have him for so long but I am still so devastated his time is near. I've been keeping him very close to me, he seems more content. He mostly sleeps now. I wanted to thank YT for existing. I have learned so much reading this forum over the years. It is invaluable, IMO. I was able to be more informed and always questioned my vet - even though he is great. I know another Yorkie will be in my future. So I'll be looking for recommendations once we've grieved. I still have a lot of love to give, even though I feel like I'm dying inside now. Thank you all for your support. |
Oh no! I am so sorry! My cocker spaniel Lady had renal failure and it devestated me to make a decision - we were in the middle of starting to move to another house and she was just so sick - drinking tons of water....we had Chanel then as a puppy and she would lay right up against Lady like she knew - man I loved that dog and still miss her.....again you have my sympathy and prayers for Presley....:( |
I'm so sorry to hear this terrible news about Presley. It doesn't matter how old our loved ones are when they leave us...it's never long enough. I will be praying for you and your precious boy. Hugs to you. |
I am so sorry ! :( |
I'm so sorry that Presley is so ill. I tried to prepare myself for losing my angel Ashley because she was almost seventeen, but nothing in advance really helped me cope with losing her. Cherish each moment with Presley and know that he has had a wonderful life with you. The loving bond that you share will last forever. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Presley. |
I am very sorry to hear that, Megan, my 15 year old was put to sleep at the end of may, she had dementia and renal failure. Preslely has had an impressive life, 17 1/2 years, wow. Megan had PDA and wasn't expected to live out her 1st year, the extra 14 were a blessing. My wife and I had always said we wouldn't let Megan suffer, and we didn't. I hope Presley has some great pain free time with you, again I'm very sorry. Best wishes Quad & Gina:aimeeyork |
We will keep you both in our thoughts and prayers. |
So sorry to hear Presley is so ill. You and Presley are in our prayers. |
Sorry to hear he is not doing well, take solace in the fact that he has had a long happy love filled life. When my friend's Rottie who was only 5 years old had to be put down after a seizure I was devastated. He was the sweetest dog I had ever met. |
sorry to hear that |
I'm so sorry to hear about Presley. Is he under orders to drink as much as possible? If so, you might consider chicken broth to get as much fluid as you can in him (within reason I guess). When Minnie was in renal failure at the very end that's how we kept fluids flowing through her. Well that, and putting her wet food under some water in a bowl. It kept her from being in pain. Just enjoy these last days with your incredible friend. I know that last week I got with Minnie when her kidneys were practically gone was priceless. |
So sorry to hear about your dear Presley. He loves you & trusts you to do the right thing. Take care. |
I'm so sorry!! :'( |
It would be best if this thread was moved to sick/injured. I will PM a moderator so you can get more responses. When the kidneys begin to shut down, they have difficult filtering out the toxins. That\'s probably why your baby isn\'t eating because he is probably nauseous. Sub-Q fluids might help him. Your vet could probably teach you how to do it yourself. I\'m sorry your baby is so ill. I\'m sure others will come on to offer their help. |
I am so sorry, you are in my prayers. |
