Chickens Hi All Happy New Year to everyone. I have a very big problem it is not about my lovely Yorkie Ellie who will be 16 on the 17th January, but I have 17 chickens and my husband is fed up with the cleaning etc and he says I must put them up for sale I just love the girls what shall I do. |
Hmmmm I am probably not the right person to ask this lol. My DH and I discuss things. I don't take to being told things too kindly. Lol. Anyway, do you help with the clean up and such? |
Are they kept outside in a pen? |
I would love to have a chicken or two, but they are a lot of work. If he is forced to clean up after them or deal with their mess and would rather not, I can see his side. |
I've raised thousands of birds, mostly quail but some silkie chickens. Since the details you've provided is abbreviated, here's my advice. 17 chickens is a lot of work. Try to "negotiate" with your husband for a flock reduction. Select 3 at most to keep, sell off or harvest the rest. Eat or dispose of all of the remaining eggs that they lay. Don't hatch or allow the birds to hatch them. AND do all of the clean up yourself. My better half Robyn has NEVER cleaned anything to do with my pheasant, chukar, quail, dove or chickens. She only occasionally fed and watered them in my absence. I reduced my flock to only 5 mountain quail due to the work involved with my hobby. I no longer incubate and hatch eggs. I fully understand how raising birds can get out of hand, you've reached that point.:( |
