Hates snow Just had a big snow fall today in chicago and i just realized how much bentley hates the snow even though he had on his winter coat. i wish i could post the picture of him. |
I'm with Bentley. We got 18 inches in Gurnee, Il and my 3 aren't liking it either. |
It can be startling to a dog who hasn't experienced it much before. Tramp down a spot for him to walk around in it and play games with treats. Coats can be awkward to wear, too. Hopefully you have one that allows him to move around freely. Good luck. |
Make sure you don't take him any where there is salt on the road or sidewalk. It is very painful to their feet. There are some brands of salt for sidewalks that are safe for pets but it is more expensive (of course) and most people don't buy it. |
We shovel a path for Galen. He is pretty close to the ground and he is a squater. But over all he doesn't mind too much. |
Yea after being out so long he starts to limp so we go in the house then.... |

Mike is definitely an expert I'd take him up on his advice. We shovel paths for our pups to use. This time the snow was so fluffy I used a broom and swept paths. You may want to invest in some good fitting booties for his feet. Also, for long walks we put a snowsuit on our pups or do layers w/ pajamas and then a coat. Its so cold right now we're pretty much keeping them in layers. |

We've only had the one snow this year. I regret not taking our guy out for a walk.. it was raining by then is my only defense. He had no problem taking care of business outside though. I've noticed that when Crab Bait gets balled up dirt/mud on his foot hair on our near daily walks, that he starts to limp. I've trimmed that hair that grows downward between his toes to stop the accumulation of dirt. This might help your dog with the snow???????? |
1 Attachment(s) Katie loves the snow, but like Mike and Jenni, I put booties on Katie. I have been using them on her when we walk even when it's not snowing. I am trying to protect her pads from the salt and sand. I also use Musher"s Secret on her pads to protect them. We walk and play a lot outside. |
