Top knot HELP! Trying to keep a top knot in Si's hair with continuing FAILURE! Any suggestions? He keeps rubbing his head, until he works it out! |
The way I got Mandie to leave hers alone was to put it in and then immediately give her a treat and took her outside to play. She played outside and totally forgot about her hair. She would eventually rub it out, but I kept doing that and eventually, she left it alone. Didn't take too long. Good luck! Also, what are you using to do the topknot? I use mini scrunchies and do them really tight. (I mean doubling the scrunchie as much as possible..not pulling her hair tight lol). Make sure you DO losen the hair between the head and the topknot holder so it isn't too tight..that will make them rub it out because it is uncomfortable. |

I thought I would never get a topknot in Max. He learned he had to put it in if he wanted to go walking. I had to start with the latex bands until his hair was long and thick enough for the scrunchies. I always took it out at night and massaged his head. Now that my boys have really long topknots, they have to wear the scrunchies all night or they would end up with hair in their mouths and eyes. It has to be tight enough to hold the hair, but not so tight that it is pulling the skin or ears. When my guys scratch at their heads, I know I must have gotten a hair too tight or pulled too close to their ears. |
His hair is still a little short, just enough to get a baby elastic in and have about 1" of hair sticking up, do you mean a regular hair scrunchy (baby sized)? |

The scrunchies are tiny and fit on my pinky finger. I wrap 3 times on my boys' topknots. We buy ours at WalMart or Target. I should buy from BowBiz to get the colors I want: #SF0057 - Scrunchie Fun - Grape Purple Pkg of 5 : Dog Bows, Quality Dog Bows - Yorkie, Maltese, Shih Tzu - by BowBiz |
I started with scrunchies first. They were easy to put in and take out. I get them in the children's dept of Walmart. Galen was not a happy camper in the beginning with top knots. I would sit down a couple of times a day and fix his top knot. Now, I tell him top knot and he puts down his head so I can put it in. Sometimes he still likes to mess it up. Just keep it up. He will get used to it. I was told the same thing too when I was feeling beaten. It will happen. If Galen can do it and pup can :) |
I can't do one in Izzy' s hair :( it's so thin! Does anyone know at what age it starts to get full or thicker? |

My first topknot was a disaster....I had it so tight my dog couldnt blink :D I think if the fur is loose but the knot itself is tight--they forget quickly its even there. |
My Abby has thin hair and she managed (after a time) to break off her hair so there was even less- she has a cute short "do" now. I think we will have to forgo the topknots.:( |
Thank you all for the information, I have been keeping at the top knot, he is getting better, and left his in tonight...so far! |
