Body Spray
 

I have a 3 year old yorkie and he is an inside dog except for playtime outside. My problem is that our fur baby sleeps most of the night under the covers in our bed. I'm thinking that he sweats which is causing him to smell. In between groomings I use Paul Mitchell pet shampoo. After two days my baby smells again. I have tried a few pet sprays from Petco/Petsmart and the scent doesn't last. I don't want to him to not sleep with us but I hate the way his coat smells. Any ideas for a better product? Thanks!!

Look at Yorkie Sheen. It's great for in between bath fresh up smell.

Also I am using IV San Bernard Shampoos and my girls can now go over a week between baths. I think shampoo scents may make a difference too.

Sometimes when Cali gets somewhat smelly between baths I use
Happytails DRY DOG INSTANT CLEAN. I spray it on then wipe her with a baby wipe.

One thing to keep in mind is that most shampoos for humans and pets contain sulfates and other harsh chemicals that cause the skin to produce oils more quickly than if you had not used them. When the skin is stripped of it's natural oils it causes the skin to over produce oils so your dog gets icky faster. A good all natural product will help with this issue.

Sometimes certain foods can cause the skin to emit an odor. You might want to check the ingredient list on the food you are feeding and see if you feel it contains foods that are healthy for your dog.

The best products I have used on Gracie have been the Yorkie Splash and Shine from: Yorkie Splash and Yorkie Shine | Yorkie Shampoo and Yorkie Conditioner
and WEN. She smells really nice for days and the Yorkie Sheen is good for spraying on the coat before combing and brushing. It has a wonderful fresh scent and does not over condition the coat.

There are other good all natural products out there of course, some not as good as others and in varying price ranges. Just read the label well. Some may advertize one or two natural ingredients but actually contain a lot of chemicals as well.

Gracie sleeps in the bed every night and more times than not gets under the covers. We don't have any issues with bad odor. She get s a bath every week and combed at least once a day.

Huh.... our lil guy will not stay under the covers while we are all in bed... even if it drops below 60 in the house at night.

I'm not a fan of "freshening" sprays for smells...febreze used to kill cats...it might still.... have you tried to lightly moisten his hair with a wash cloth and blow dry on low. On humans, this is called a spit bath... old term..

Well, I hope no one would be foolish enough to spray Fabreze or any room or fabric deodorizer on their pet! Although I guess there are always some crazies out there that might consider it.

A good all natural conditioning spray is good for using on dry ends before combing. You never want to over condition so choose with care and make sure whatever you use is approved for pets.

That's NOT what I was saying.... Febreze was sold with the understanding that it was a safe product for all when used on furniture and such... Obviously it was NOT. What I am saying IS::::::what ever is on the market today.... may be considered unsafe in the future... BE CAREFUL!

I also expressed, due to my experience, I don't trust any of them even if they are intended to be used on pets. That's my opinion, you are entitled to yours....

Yeah, I guess my confusion came in because the discussion was about an owner who was concerned about an odor on her pet. Any product intended for household use should be used with caution in a home that contains pets. For that matter there are plenty of deodorizing and cleaning products out there that are potentially harmful to humans and the environment but that is not what the discussion is about.

Earthbath products are all natural earth friendly and smell great. I like the cherry puppy shampoo but the mango tango scent has a deodorizing spray and cleaning wipes. All good things to help out with those inbetween bath times. I would make sure of a few things though- definitely check the diet and see if three is anything in the food that the body may be responding poorly to, Mayr casing skin reactions and check those teeth. Even at the young age of three, dental issues can already have cropped up, especially if there isn't a strongly documented health history and dental issues stink! In more ways then one :)

How often do you bathe him? And is it just his body that smells? I only ask b/c Zoey can get little stinky at times but I figured out it was from her face.

I use glocoat for shampoo/conditioner but I also wipe with baby wipes and spritz with emu oil every time we come back inside from an outing. I've only had one person to ever complain about my two being stinky. But in my puppies defence, the guy was majorly OCD. LOL
