Do u have a morkie? We are getting a morkie tomorrow she is all white with yorkie hair and i think favors the yorkie side. Her name is milly and shes 4mos old. Ive done my research but curious what other peoples experiences are with this breed and if they are easy to train (she already had some) and what type of activities they like to do. We have a silky (for those that dont know its like a yorkie) hes 8mos n small for his breed but is so easy to train (i helped my gram get her yorkie that us a bit younger and hes another story but she wont listen to be more of a pack leader with him he listens but has some bad habits that when hes with us for a play date etc he never even tries to do lol) and enjoys his walk, play time in the yard, playing with the kids, and really just pleasing thats why i think hes so easy to train took me a day to teach him to shake and sit up. Once we get her ill put up a pick with both of them together. |
Hello and welcome to YT. Congrats on your new pup. Sorry I do not have a Morkie |
Welcome to YT! I have two morkies. One who got more of the maltese laid-back attitude and one with the hyper yorkie attitude! They are great dogs, and need a LOT of grooming! But I get them in a puppy cut every 2 months and it does them great. As for training, mine are SUPER smart learning tricks. Housebreaking...ehhh...not so much. One is 3 and the other is a 1.5 and they still puddle in the house occasionally. Even with that, they are the loves of my life and I couldn't live without them! Doesn't hurt that they are also so so cute. ;) Their personalities are all different, but a lot of it depends on how you treat them and train them. They focus their life around you, you know! You will enjoy her so much & she will be a blessing. Post pics soon! xx |

Trust me i under stand the reasoning behind people hating a breed being called something etc. But a dog is a dog and is there fault how they are breed and all deserve a loving home. |
I have a morkie and he is quite the character! Cooper is a very sweet dog and cannot get enough of playing and taunting his Yorkie brother. I've seen morkies of all shapes and sizes. Did you get your dog yet? Post a pic! |

Hybrid is a term used by unscrupulous breeders to dupe an uneducated public. I have a wonderful Maltese/Yorkie mix that came from a rescue group. She is 3 1/2 years old and looks nothing like she did as a puppy. She started off Black and Tan and teeny tiny. Now she is blonde and gray and 16 pounds! I love her, even if she is the most stubborn dog I've ever had in my life. |
I mentioned the mix issue, only to make a clarification... I don't care what you got or call it, they all are totally loveable. I've owned mixes and they were some of the best animals ever. However, I just don't understand why anyone would intentionally mix. The Yorkshire and Maltese are such noble breeds (others like Poodle too) why would one want to dilute them. I just think it's careless and irresponsible. |

Anyway, I'm sure your little one is absolutely adorable and you'll have to see how her looks and personality develop to see if she favors the maltese half or the yorkie half more. |
PS: Lots of this type mix exists. And yes, one can run across them, they're cute and one may "connect" with that animal and want it, but... I'd treat that situation like I would a Dog from a Puppy Mill, and that I liked IT. I'd focus on the animal it's self, its personality, and wouldn't pay the Breeder a cent more than what it cost to medically maintain the puppy till it was acquired. If those persons who allow such breeding are forced to not realize anything beyond a remuneration, the trouble that hosting a Liter may make it not worth their time. |

I have a yorkie mix and bought her purposely because I wanted a mix, something close to a yorkie, since I had four purebreds in the past. But this time I wanted something a little different and a pup that did not cost $1,500.00 either. I also wanted a puppy not an adult dog and after checking with the local pounds and rescue groups did not find a puppy that met my criteria and time frame so I bought Lola from a private local person local when she was 4 months old and paid $400 or 450.00 can't remember, but about what most rescue groups charge. At that age you can pretty much predict what they will look like and weigh as an adult and I have to say I have never been happier. I also had a complete blood panel and chest exray done on her the day after I picked her up, the vet thought I was crazy but I wanted to know as much as I could before I bonded with her. I don't think of her as a breed, just a mix and I would never be crazy to buy what people on the internet like to pass off as "designer breeds" and charge as much as good purebred breeders charge. Good luck with your morkie, hopefully you are buying a dog older than 8 weeks and will take it to the vet for a through check up. |
I have a Morkie or so called mutt. I love her to pieces and she returns the favor. She is a 7.4lb bundle of joy and a loving little girl that wants to be held all the time. I take part credit in that but the husband doesn't think her little feet should touch the ground. He is always carrying her everywhere. She loves to play and housebreaking seemed that it happened overnight. She talks to so and tells us she has to go out. She is on a leash and never has run the yard herself. I can't wait to see pictures of your puppy when you get her. |
Congrats Make sure to put up some photos of your baby. |

I have 3 Morkies and 1 Yorkie, and they are all priceless and equal in my eyes. I can't imagine life without any of them. |

Have you picked up your morkie? I would love to see pics!!!! |
I have 2 yorkies and I just looked at a female morkie to add to my family! I love the yorkie breed but this little girl has stolen my heart. My yorkies are going to meet her and then we will decide. |
Update Weve had milly, her name is bella now for about a month. Got her from the private shelter and her name got changed cuz she would go possum (never seen a dog do this) when my husband said milly so we wanted her to be okay with a guy saying her name and she adores my husband lol. She was doing great going to the door if she had to go out. But she has regressed a bit cuz one time she went there n i was trying to finish putting the diaper on my youngest and while getting over to bella she started to go and like i did with all our other dogs i picked her up and said no once (prob more in a nicer way then i should of said no lol) and got her outside to finish and praised her. But now she wont go to the door any more, she doesnt sniff around, she will just go even if shes on the couch or the onetime when she was sitting on my husband and never gave any signs she had to go out. Are there any tips? I have her and our silky rockie on a schedule for feeding and i have them on an ever 30-45min bathroom breakers (more for her cuz rockie comes to u and gets up close to ur face to say he has to go out) and ill even wake her up if its been 45mins n make her go out. (They are crated at night and she is about 90% not going in the crate she may pee if i dont get her out of hers first in the morning, i think maybe cuz she knows shes going out and gets excited, but she never poos so i know she has an ability to hold it longer then our bathroom breaks during the day. But i still cant get her to tell us when she has to go or even go back to how she was going to the door, right now its pretty much like me saying hey u have to go out even tho u havent said u had to so its like she is relying on me telling her when she has to go, so when she does inbetween the 30-45mins she just goes. She drinks a lot (but ive cut back on that) and we had her checked for diabetes and utis etc everything is negative, so myself and the vet were thinking maybe she wasnt given a lot of water at her previous owner before the rescue shelter and now thinks if theres water out she has to drink fast and all of it if she cant (she can empty their water dish by herself) so its just getting her to realize she will have things like that. (I still have to figure how to put an image for the avatar profile of bella and rockie together) But on the sense of mixed/mutt dogs i just want to say no dog breed yorkie, silky, etc is pure breed if u want to get technical cuz every breed we have ever had has been breed down from two different dogs there is no breed of dog that hasnt. So to say a morkie is a mix/mutt you also need to say that a yorkie or collie what ever "pure breed" dog you have is a mix/mutt also under your theory/concept. Sorry i just had to say that cuz the concept of pure breed and how people are so against mix/mutts getting a breed name has made me laugh cuz all dogs are mix/mutts with a breed name. Now do i believe that breeders should mix dogs just for the sake of mixing to get a high $ for pups no because 90% of the time those pups end up in shelters or bad environments. I also dont believe in breeders doing teacup etc of breeds like the yorkie and a few others cuz most dont know its the breeding or two runts and isnt fair to the breed or the pups cuz you are breeding bad genes etc cuz that is why a runt is a runt due to the lack of healthy solid genes (not the right wording) and other factors. |
Finally figured out the avatar thing. Rockie is the silky (yes hes a silky not a yorkie and our vet has done a test to prove it as we were tired of people arguing with us lol so we asked oudr vet about the breed dna test) and bella is the white one. He ears stand up now since i trimmed the hair to see if they were just getting weighed down cuz of the wait or were actually floppy. She still reminds u of teddy rubskin (not sp right) shes likes this little white bear lol. Once she has all her hair grown out again (i trimmed it cuz of some mats she had and i couldnt get brushed out) she has the hair of a yorkie and looks just like one but her face/head still reminds u of a bear lol. |
Enjoy your Morkie, I just bought 1- 3 weeks ago and we love him, he listens, eats pretty good but still bites when playing w/us. Enjoy |
I also have a Morkie! She is half Parti Yorkie and half Maltese. She has marking like the Parti Yorkie, but looks more like a Maltese. She is so hyper sometimes I think she's bouncing off the walls! LOL I personally think she is very smart. She knows all the basic commands including more advanced commands such as, play dead, roll over, dance, sit pretty, jump through a hoop, and many more! :) Potty training her was a breeze but I've herd different from other people. You can train your puppy to ring a bell whenever it needs to go out, but mine will bark until I go out with them. LOL |
