Thank goodness this little guy will get the attention and caring that he deserves. You are an angel for taking him in, and I hope the vet is able to help you get him comfortable and healthy again.

From your earlier description, skin and bones, feed him what ever he wants! (within reason)
How's his stool and demeanor? Being locked in a basement would give me a "stool" of an attitude....:rolleyes:

His stool looked normal to me. Even with the can food. I was actually surprised he is still house trained. It only takes him a few minutes to do his business then he's ready to go back inside. His demeanor is changing at first he stayed right with us, now he'll go into a room by his self and lay on the bed. Before he wouldn't get out of your lap. He's super sweet, isn't aggressive or anything. Him and Macy my other Yorkie don't have much to do with each other. If he gets close to her she gets up and walks off.

That's good to hear... Is he up for a walk around the block, a little exercise, slow? Maybe walk both the dogs together so your girl gets used to him....???? It's also a good thing for you to gauge his energy, a starting point... then later, see how much he's improved... besides the stuff with the vet. Glad you rescued him!

I just have to shake my head when I hear some of the things that a vet will say. I would love to see that vet eating some hard food without any teeth!
If you really want him on dry food then it would be best to soften it for him.
Can you imagine the torture a dog would go through as the hard dry food was "hardeniing up his gums" ??!!

:( That's exactly what I thought when I read it....torture. Cutting up his poor little gums....can any of us imagine how that would feel? :( Sally + Harry x

Took the words right out of my mouth!!

Poor little guy!! He looked so sad in his picture. Hopefully he starts coming around and feeling better.

There is a pitbull at the shelter my step mom volunteers for and she likes her feet raw due to anxiety from being at the shelter. She's been there for over a year. Perhaps your little guy is/was licking his hair off for the same reasons. He might not have been locked in a cage, but being locked in a basement alone isn't much better. Hopefully he will bond with your little girl and she will help his separation anxiety and teach him how to be a dog again.

You are an angel for tgaking this little guy in. When I hear stories like this it makes me furious. How can anybody do that to an innocent little dog. At least they gave him up. Some people don't and go on mistreating the dogs. God Bless You and lots of luck with your little baby.

To put on weight you may want to ask your Vet about Science Diets AD. It is in a can and is great to put on weight. I'd also report the people that had him you can be his voice. They should not be allowed to ever have a pet.

He's getting more and more energetic, well I shouldn't say energetic. He has a little more pep in his step. I haven't tested a walk yet. He goes right back to the door after doing his business, and he's so small and it's pretty cold out. I don't want to
Keep him out long.

I have a hard time believe a vet actually said that. I just think that was their excuse for feeding him dry food. Hopefully. Before I switched him to the grain free can I did soften the dry food and that worked well. Once he starts eating more I'll probably do that to save a little money. (And to keep Macy from hating me I hate letting him have the can and not her)

I don't actually like Science Diet. I know a lot of Vets recommend that, but I don't like the ingredients. It doesn't seem any better then the stuff you'd buy at the grocery store. It's been a while since I researched food, so I could be wrong about this.

Oh wow...just imagine what this little guys life has been like. Thank you for taking him in and showing him what it's like to be loved...eventually he is going to be so thankful. I think you're doing everything right keep him covered with a tee shirt or sweater, this will not only comfort him but hopefully keep him from the licking...talk to him and reassure him that he'll be alright. Love him, cuddle him...feed him as you are and let him get use to this new idea of being cared for. Bless your heart for what you're doing for him.
