Difference between AKC and UKC? Hi all :) I was just wondering what the difference is between AKC registration and UKC registration? It seems like puppies with either registration are equally priced.... for the most part. Is AKC better? Can a dog be shown who is UKC registered? Thanks so much :) :aimeeyork |
This is just a list for everyone's information --- CKC = Continental Kennel Club FCI = Fédération Cynologique Internationale AKC = American Kennel Club UKC = United Kennel Club KCGB = Kennel Club of Great Britain CKC = Canadian Kennel Club ANKC = Australian National Kennel Club NKC = National Kennel Club NZKC = New Zealand Kennel Club APRI = American Pet Registry Inc. ACR = American Canine Registry I have always stayed with the AKC registrations for my dogs - but there are so many more now. I think the UKC seems to be more involved in competative events than the AKC, but I may be wrong. What you need to do is look up the UKC on the Internet - there is a lot of information about it. Do you plan to show or breed your dog? If not -- I'm not sure that registration even matters. I have always registered my dogs with the AKC -- and now with my new puppy, I am asking myself - why do I do this? I dont breed them. I don't show them. I pay money to register them for no good reason - and then put the papers in a drawer and never look at them again. I have papers for my current puppy showing that he is a purebred and can be registered - this is good enough for me - I am not going to pay to register him. It really is a waste of my money. I'd rather buy him clothes and toys. Carol Jean |

In order for a dog to be shown @ an AKC show it has to be registered AKC. There are tons of registeries out there. My dogs are registered AKC and APR. If you are a breeder (have 3 or more females) you can register any dog that is AKC or UKC with APR for FREE, otherwise it is $15. The reason I have mine registered with the APR is that I have APR show near where I live. Their shows are not as stuffy and in most cases they have 4 shows in a 2 day span, and you can champion out your dog easier. Also if you have never shown before its a good place to get a start. Plus the registry is really easy to work with. Alot of breeders are now dual regerstering their dogs. You may want to look into it. |
