Thanks everyone....I took into consideration what everyone said and I even asked the vet. I bought some Himalayan chews and the vet suggested rawhide. The pups prefer the Himalayans over the rawhide :) but that is for right now. I have yet to give them a dental stick, but I just went to the pet store yesterday evening, so we will see how it goes. Anyone know a cheap place to buy the Himalayans? I did think about the Bully Sticks, but my Simon would tear one up in like 15 minutes. He's a chewer and an eater  and I'm not sure why it's so bad right now, unless it's just because he's still teething. Thanks again! |

I know that some here at YT buy the Himalayan chews and like them so I'm sure someone will have the info for you. |
I was surprised that my vet recommended the rawhide too. He even recommended a thinner version, which I was surprised by due to the fact that I thought Simon would eat it right away and digest it, or try to. So I went with a bone rawhide, and Simon hasn't gotten very far with it :) He like the Himalayan, but he just tore one up last night, so I may get him the medium sized ones and limit his time for them to mornings and some evening time before bed. Still open to suggestions for anyone who knows of a cheap place to buy them! I am going to have my dad look at Costco, but right now PetSmart is having a pretty good sale online and I have bought some there. Thanks! |
Charlies breeder gave me a cow hoof to take with me for him. He loves them. That's all I buy. ( I just make sure I scrub them well after I buy them before giving him one). The last forever. |
My two loved the cow hooves but I couldn't take the smell. We also buy best bully sticks. Sissy is a chewer. She goes through about one a week and a half. Bubba will occasionally chew on one she has softened. As a matter of fact our order of 25 thick bully sticks just arrived yesterday (Christmas present). |

I scrub them with dish soap and warm water with a brush. It gets rid of the smell. I couldn't stand the smell either. |
Please please do not give any kind of rawhide even if you think he is not getting pieces off he can be and they swell when they get wet and inside the stomach. |

Barkworthies Odor-Free Thick Bully Sticks 6" Dog Treats I place an order on chewy every month or so, for dog food, treats, etc, and do the $49 for free shipping and I add a few bully's to the order as of recently. I really like these, they are thick, don't smell, and Jackson (17lbs) takes a while to chew them. We've gotten some bullys in the past that he ate way too fast. To be honest, I stopped being thrilled with the bullys from bestbullysticks too (I used to always order from them) but they seemed to be getting thinner and thinner. I'd order the jumbos and they still just looked like regular. I was happiest with the ones from our local pet store (not a chain) but they're just TOO expensive to buy often... the 12" ones are like $15 each or something insane. BUT, they DID last him a long time (like a week). So occasionally I'll buy one as a special treat but too expensive to give often. |
I like the odorless bully sticks. Maxwell won't touch it until our Newfie starts one, then I have to give it to Maxwell when it's mushy and the Newf gets a new one. I'm going broke; wish I could find a safe, long lasting chew. They both stare at me every morning while I read the paper until they get a chew.:animal36:aimeeyork |
