When do Yorkies stop growing I have been reading on the internet different things. They are conflicting on when a yorkie is done growing. 1 says they stop at 12 months but all the others that I have been reading say 6 months and some say 6-10months so which is it. If any of you can advise on this it would help me out. Thanks! |
I don't think it's 'conflicting' so much as it varies, really. A lot of dogs reach their adult size by around 6-8 months, but continue putting on weight for a few months, even a year afterward. Billi is 9 months and hasn't added so much as an ounce in about 3 months, but I'm sure she'll fill out more eventually. The best predictor is the parent &/or sibling dogs. How old were they when they reached adult size & weight, what is their adult size/weight, etc? It can help give an idea, but every dog is different. |
There are so many different genes in the Yorkes being sold right now that there is no real way to predict just when they will stop growing. In general dogs attain 2/3 of their body size by 6 months of age. How long it takes to attain the rest of the body stature can vary. Some are done before 12 months and some may take several more months to become totally mature in their body type. At 12 months usually most of their height has been achieved but they generally continue to gain muscle and fat until they reach their adult weight. A year old dog generally still needs to continue to mature to a healthy adult weight. |
Thanks, Izzy is alittle over 6 months and is weighing in at 2.5lbs. Dad full grown is 3 1/2 lbs and mom full grown is 5 1/2 lbs. |
