Need Jacket Rec with Slot for Puppia Harness My little guy is almost six pounds of fluff and wears a Puppia harness (a red one...he looks good in red!). We really like his harness and leash, but the d-rings are quite large and don't fit through the slots on any of the jackets I'm finding in the big box stores around me--either the slots on the jackets are too small or their aren't any slots at all! It is getting pretty chilly out and all he has is a fleece and some sweaters--including two that my mom knit for him. She's never knit *me* any sweaters, but she's already knit him TWO! I guess she's a dog person after all! :D Thanks for any advice you have! Sarah (and Toby!) |
My wife bought a coat many years ago at a craft fair, it was for our 3.4lb Yorkie, Megan. When she got home with it and I put it on Megan, we realized there was no slot for the d-ring, so I made my own. I just put the coat on her and felt for the d-ring, then cut a slit, just big enough for it to go through. We still have that coat, Gina is using it now. If you find the coat that you really like, just cut the slot bigger or cut a slot, I'm sure that any tailor shop could do it. Cheers Quad & Gina:aimeeyork |
If you sew you can put your own button holes in the outfits, If you cut your own slit and do not have a sewing machine, you might want to hand stich around the opening, to cut down on the fraying. Also you could mark the hole and take it to a tailor or check with your local dry cleaner since many of them do alterations. I know from experience that it is hard to find the d ring hole exactly where and what direction you need it to be. Also make sure that you buy the clothes a size larger, I know the harness vest you have and it is bulky. |
Have you thought about putting the harness OVER the sweater? It would be fine ..... it would serve the purpose of keeping him WARM... but it may not highlight the sweater... |
Thank you for the replies. I have put the harness over the sweater--it looks kind of silly, but it is better than nothing. Unfortunately he still is freezing! He potties outside and sometimes he is so cold that he is too busy shivering and he can't potty. Not a good problem to have! My sewing skills are pretty basic--but I definitely could take a coat to a tailor. I never even thought about that. I'll feel pretty silly doing it, but since I can't fix the button-hole, I guess I don't have a choice! Thanks for the idea! |
I would also suggest making your own larger button holes or put the harness over the coat or sweater. |

Oh it looks silly on Toby to have his step-in harness (it is a vest style) Puppia harness over his sweaters. Luckily he is cute enough that it doesn't matter! I think all of you who had the idea of having a seamstress/tailor do the buttonhole for me are on to something. Thank you so much, everyone! |
