I need some advice..
 

I have hand fed my King since I got him at 8 weeks. What I do is take a small piece of chicken breast that has been cooked in water, grab some kibble, then give him only the kibble, while holding the chicken at the same. He will pick up the smell of the chicken while taking his kibble from my finger... That has really helped me with getting him to eat. My question now is how do I get him to eat on his own? As simple as it may seem to do this, it can be a great inconvenience at times, especially if I'm at school. He doesn't eat early in morning, he has no appetite. So he doesn't eat till I get home at noon. That is about 6hrs without eating. I just don't like those 6 hours without eating because lately he's been eating small portions(I think because he is losing baby teeth right now & might be having trouble eating the hard kibble). With that being said if he eats a small portion the night before, doesn't eat in the morning, and then doesn't eat all throughout the morning until noon when I get home... He's real hungry by the time I arrive. I just think that's a long time without eating and I don't like it.
Anyone have any advice on how I can get him to start eating on his own? Anyone ever go through this??

Also as far as the teeth go...I assume he is eating smaller portions because he is having trouble eating his kibble because he is losing baby teeth. Could that make sense? Or are they usually not bothered by the baby teeth coming out?

My dude has been eating a lot less lately with his teething too, but he's 8 monthes ...I'm not too concerned cause he does eat when he's Hungary enough and he steals some of the big dogs food when they aren't looking...is he still very young?

You could soften his kibble by adding a little of the broth from when you boil chicken, and also put some finely diced chicken in the food. Some people also get them interested in their food by sprinkling a little parmesan cheese on top (the smell makes it more appetizing to them).

How old is he now? It is important to for them to eat every couple hours if he is young and small, to avoid hypoglycemia.

He is now 6months, about to be 7 on dec 8th. Hopefully all his adult teeth come in soon because I'm not liking this :/ but thank you for the response! Good to know that it's just his teeth causing problems and not something else!

He is 6months right now. I think since he's 6months the risk of him becoming hypoglycemic is not to high, but still I really do make sure to feed him as frequently as I can because of those smaller portions he's now having. I will definitely try the parmesan cheese. I tried that when I first got him cause he just wouldn't eat his kibble at all and it didn't work, but now he's much older and he actually somewhat enjoys eating his kibble, he has many different habits now. Hopefully that works! Thank you (:

I just bought another yorkie. He is younger than my other 2 were when I brought them home. He is 11 weeks. And I take his kibble and soak it in warm water for a few and he seems to be eating just fine. Good Luck. (mine baby came home with Kennel cough and I am very upset)

Well I actually do soak his food a little now, but he still only eats smaller portions. Thank you though(: and sorry to hear about your baby! Hope he gets better!
