I hate trimming nails!!
 

Chloe is the most uncooperative dog when it comes to trimming her nails. She is absolutely ridiculous. And it has to be the most challenging task in the world to try to cut the nails of a dog that is constantly squirming. I need a doggie sedative to give her, lol :D :rolleyes:

I haven't even tried yet, I have let the vet do it. I just bought clippers and stuff in case I cut her to stop the bleeding!

Gucci is also very uncooperative. It is so hard to cut her nails. I have my son hold her and she still wiggles to get out. I have tried wrapping her on a towel, during her bath, and while she is sleeping with no luck. :( I dont know how something so small can be so strong to get away. :rolleyes:

I have NEVER cut her nails too short either. She has never bled so I have no idea why she freaks out so much :confused:

I just admire you for doing it :) I can't imagine even trying!

I agree - they act totally ridiculous about something totally painless. I think it's a built in yorkie thing. :)

It's the one and only time anything that tiny can kick my butt.

I wrap my girls in a towel and take out one VERY STRONG paw at a time...and look them in the eyes ....& tell them I'm bigger and it's gonna happen. hehe - it sometimes works - sometimes not.

I let my vet do it bc I dont even want to mess with their little squirming butts. My 2 hate when I mess with their feet.

One of mine is terrible to cut toenails. What I do now is take her down to the stationary tub, give her a bath (this softens the nails) and then quickly trim them when she is still in the tub.

Maybe I should try to use a towel, too. I think they wiggle so much 'cause they know we love them and they can get away with it. My baby girl never fights it when our vet did it and he cut her by accident too. Whenever I try to trim her nail, she cries even before I start trimming. What's up with that?

My cousin used to be a groomer and she said to set them on the washer or something and do one paw at a time. I haven't tried this yet, but she said that having their feet on the "ground" doesn't make them feel as intimidated. If you have a fiesty one, maybe have someone stand by in case they feel like trying to escape. I always wondered why they are able to stand on an itty bitty platform several feet off the ground and just stand there for a groomer. Again, I haven't tried this but it sort of makes sense!

VERY good and very true - most dogs dont like it when they can't feel the ground under their feet.... :thumbup: :thumbup: I may have to try this myself - the washer sounds pretty good.

I have the worse trouble too. I don't know what it is but they are soooo strong when it comes to pulling back the feet. I know that the dryer thing doesn't work for me. It doesn't matter where they're standiing they act the same. Archie is about the best. There's a sling that I'm thinking of getting, you just hang them in it and their feet hang out the bottom so they can't get away. I just have to find a strong place to hand them :confused: ...

I am a believer that anything can be fixed with duct tape, but this is one thng that nothing can fix. I agree with Villette that it is a built in Yorkie thing.. There is not a co-operative one in my bunch. Hubby holds sometimes but has a hissy if I quick a nail. So, I feel like I have gone 10 rounds with Ali after doing 2 or 3 of them..

After having to struggle and giving up with Carter & Cooper, I'm making sure to trim Crissy's nails every week so that she learns to like it. So far, she is a good girl for that . . . but it's only been 9 weeks, so far.

I love duct tape.....
But I never do the boys nails we let the vet or groomer ....it is just easier....

Wosie let me trim her last time...

Hip Hip HOORAY!! I can't believe it but Wosie let me cut ALL her nails in one sitting today!

She was pretty mellow this afternoon, so I thought I would go for it. I flipped her onto her back on my lap with her back feet touching my tummy, and I did each nail quickly on one paw, one at a time, telling her she was a good girl and asking her to wait. I had to stop her from struggling after each nail, but kept speaking low and quietly, telling her how good she was, and she would calm enough for me to clip the next nail. When I got one paw done, I clicked the clicker and gave her a treat and lots of petting, still keeping her on her back on my lap. She calmed again, so I moved to the next foot. By the time I got to the last foot, she was almost asleep!! I can't believe it, really I can't!! The last time I tried to cut her nails was a month ago, just before she broke her leg, and you would have thought I was trying to kill her, lol!

I am soooooo excited, and my girl no longer sounds like she is tap dancing when she walks across the floor!!

LOL! Villette...I do the same thing. And I thought I was the only nutty one. When Syd is fighting me on any grooming procedure, I end up picking her up and getting right in her face and saying "Syd...I'm the Mommy and we are going to do this because I said so and I am bigger and stronger and have a stronger will than you." Sometimes it helps.

Syd and I are both Scorpios...so sometimes it is a real battle of wills in our house. :D

Remember going to the vet and asking for a sedative so we could trim Priscellas nails....YOU DON'T NEED TO DO THAT DOC SEZ!! and he proceeded to trim her nails,went in the back to get her other meds and when he came out with them said ,oh' and heres some pills to calm her down!....Heh,Heh

I have tried and tried again, every suggestion I have heard... :mad: not happening! So now I make an appt at my groomers she usually does it for free, in between visits,, Sometimes she has to GET on the table and put a leg around his body to hold him,, IT was ugly, I witnessed it.. She said He isn't THAT bad, that she has ones that are worse,, I can't imagine.
So, needless to say when she was done wrestling him.. I gave her $ 10.00 dollars, she said "that's too much", I said " Oh no, that's not near enough" ;)
I don't even attempt it anymore, it is impossible,and then I dont have to deal with him being MAD at me for an hour or so.

LOL! I know what you mean about "being mad". Doing any major grooming to Syd is a 2 person job...aka nails, hair cuts, butt trims, etc. And I have my mother help me instead of my finacee, #1 because my mom is experienced at grooming dogs and #2 because my fiancee is just WAY too much of a softie when it comes to Syd.

Anyway...after a nail trimming or whatever Syd acts mad at my mom. Usually grandma is her favorite person...but after that she will turn her back to my mom and refuse to sit on her lap. It's like she is saying, "I expect this crap from my mommy...but you too?"

That's funny, my BF is the same way, I say Hold him,, it will be so much easier,, after he has watched me try to do it alone for a half hour..and he says " No, I don't want him all mad at me!" NICE! :rolleyes:
