Is it dog or cat food???? I have always been under the impression that cat food and dog food are two different foods and it isn't healthy for cats or dogs to eat each other's food because of different nutritional requirements. I notice a few dog food companies advertise their food as "Cannine/Feline food". Am I the only one that thought dogs shouldn't eat cat food and vise versa? |
Which company advertised canine/feline food? Or do they mean they make both canine and feline food? Cat food is very much higher in protein and fat, not for dogs at all. |
I was looking at Wysong foods and they call some of their foods cannine/feline. I have seen other foods that advertise the same way but can't remember which company. |
I'm not familiar with Wysong, but dog food and cat food is not interchangeable in my opinion. A bite here and there theat they snuck in may not be of any harm but long term feeding a dog cat food is not healthy. |
I was on Pet Food Direct checking out different foods and was shocked to see how it was listed. I always thought cat food was off limits to dogs but don't know where I got that idea. |

Look at Wyson Epigen cannine/feline food. The reviews talk about it's a great food for cats and dogs. I was just curious when I ran across this food on the internet if you could really feed to both to a dog or a cat. I don't know what the protein level or fat level are. |

I cannot now remember exactly can happen to a dog who is constantly fed cat food or what happens to cats who are given dog food, but they are not supposed to be nutritionally interchangeable! Can some of our Yorkie Talk members who are knowledgeable breeders give us some exact information about how these foods are different and why we should feed our Yorkies "dog food"? |
Even if the company says their food is good or healthy for both, ask where's the proof? What's in it for them to say it's healthy for both? Double the profit? Are they disclosing the ingredients? Personally, I'd file this under just because you can, doesn't mean you should. The only people recommending that is the company profiting from it. |
The wet food we are feeding jasmin is safe for both cat and dog. We love it. |
At first when I saw the Wysong food I thought it might be 2 different foods - one forumlated for dogs and one formulated for cats under the same name. I looked again and it's one food for both cannine and feline. The protein level is 60 and the crude fat is 11. Does anyone else feed your cat and dog the same food and have you had any problems? |
The Nature's Variety frozen raw that I have been feeding has a picture on the front of it, or a Dog and a Cat.... |
The Wysong Epigen line is formulated for both canines & felines...I think it works bc of the high protein. I've read in the dogfoodadvisor forums/discussions that cats got UTI from this food...I think it's mainly bc of a dry kibble diet. Cats don't drink enough water, so canned or raw food is best for felines. |
