Test Your Yorkie's IQ! Found a cheap puzzle toy at Walgreen's, like $5-6. Yeah, I'm cheap! Really I wanted to see how my pups would do with this type of toy, where you hide a treat and they have to push or flip a piece of wood to uncover the treat. This toy has 6 holes for treats and 3 covers that they can slide over or flip to get the treat. I wanted to try this out before investing in the more expensive versions... $25 and up. Well I must say, my dogs are Geniuses! I set the toy up and put it on the floor, and they all stood there looking at me. They could smell the treats, but they know where the treats are kept, and knew I had the container nearby. Lol. So I proceeded to play with the toy to get them interested, and Tink got mad and picked up the whole toy and carried it off to investigate by herself (she is the toy owner of the group and the biggest, at 16+ lbs). The rest just stood there looking at me, and yes, wanting me to give them a treat. (They are trained this way). I will work on this with them, just thought their first attempt was funny. |
Your furbabies did a great job! The puzzle treats are definitely worth it. Carla sent one to my boys and they love it. Teddy works it like a pro, whereas Max is a little more tentative. He isn't sure if it is "his" to touch, or something that belongs to me. I have to reassure him that it is his, then he goes to work. |
OOH...I just bought the boys some cheap pj's at CVS. I am going to have to go check out Walgreens now for puzzle toys. I did see that Petco has a bunch of them, but I believe they are about $20 each. I planned on buying them a few for xmas, but I'll have to go check out Walgreens first. I've got all kinds of interactive toys for the cat but she looses interest quickly. I could see my older male getting obsessed with the puzzle toy if there are treats involved though!! PS...You should add your find to this thread. It's about good deals we find.... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...dog-stuff.html |
Hehe funny:) Joel does not have patience (just like his mom!) So he can't even use his puzzle toy and gets mad if I even pull it out:rolleyes: He flips it over and makes a fit, haha! |

Except every time a get a new one, it takes charge of all the toys. Becca stole them from Sneakers, and Ichabod from Becca, now Navi got them from Ickey. I need more toys or fewer Dogs  |
Update!!!! I started just filling the toy and leaving it on the floor. I went out, and when I got back it was .... empty! Hmmmm.. So I filled it again and watched... they have all learned how to slide the covers to get at the treats! And Tink has started to chew on the toy itself, which I explained was not the way to do it! I really didn't think they would bother with it when I was gone. So I'll now only use it when I am home to supervise. |

I haven't been able to find them at our walgreens. I saw that Bed, Bath & Beyond has a couple for $15, but have to admit I'm cheap too. I like the $5-6 price better. Lol I got her a kong when she was a puppy but she wouldn't have anything to do with it. She's such a smartypants, I'd like to see how she would do with a treat puzzle. I try to keep her on her toes. :D |
Lol, so funny. I haven't found one yet that's hard enough for Jackson. He solves them too quickly. lol. His favorite is the Kong Wobbler. We have a Nina Ottoman one that he solves really quickly. But I'll have to check out Walgreens... I like the price! I have seen a few on chewy.com for good prices. |

They really like looking through the grocery bags too, and they loved sticking their heads in the Bark Box to see what was in there! I may invest in one of the more complicated versions for them, as they do really like this one. |
