Question. Does anyone feed their Yorkies table food, if so,
What are some of the foods you give him/her,
And how much? Just curious. My Remy seems to
Think he's human and comes right to the table. I usually
Feed him while I'm eating but he always leaved
His food to beg for mine. So far I have not fed him off my
Plate but is it ok for a little leftovers?

There is nothing wrong with giving *safe* people food, as long as you don't use it for more than 10-15% of their diet. I like to give a little hard boiled egg every morning or a little piece of cheese. Also, carrots, bit of apple, cauliflower, a pretzel if I'm having them, peanut butter....so just little bits and pieces of people food...gives them a little variety.

Funny 'people food' thing....our Pfeiffer LOVES coffee, btw, lol! She is *always* trying to get at my hubby's coffee and is just relentless about it at times. I think she worked at Starbucks in a former life :D. Of course, a lick of it is fine - but coffee/caffeine isn't good for doggies, obviously :)!

Yes, I do feed my Bailey cooked and cut up carrots, a bit of juice from the tuna can occasionally, bit of cooked egg, occasionally peanut butter and some brown rice. He also loves his apples, so when I eat one we sit on the couch and I give him little bits to chew. In any case, please make sure that what ever you are feeding yours is in tiny pieces, as they may choke, as well some foods are not totally digested and have to pass through the stomache/intestines and hence, you want it to pass with ease and not get stuck = discomfort for your dog and unnecessary vet bills.
Personally, I don't like any animal watching me or whining/begging for food while I'm eating, so when I feed him people food, accept for the apple, I only do it after I am finished my meal and tell him to go to his bowl and put the food in his bowl.
If you don't mind yours sitting and begging for food at the table, then by all means do so. Again, it's just not my thing. As well, not always does he get something from my dinner, it's usually the exception rather than the rule.
It is best to be consistent with any rule that you make for your YTer, or else they get so confused, so choose carefully. Also, please keep in mind that not all visitors you may have like dogs around the dinner table.

I was always taught not to feed dogs table food. being on here i see a little in moderation is fine. i try to teach yoshi not to beg so if i give her anything its after i eat or in her food.

Feeding them from your plate can cause bad behaviors like begging when anyone has food. Its ok to give safe human foods but there are lots of foods dogs should not have like anything with garlic or onion, grapes, ham and things that are fatty and greasy. Callie likes carrots, Strawberrys, apple, Blueberrys, Banana, Green beans, Boiled Chicken, Rice, Peas, Mango, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some. As with anything to much can cause stomach upset and diarrhea.

I give Rasta honey nut cheerios after his bath/grooming so he has something to look forward to after all the brushing/blow drying :D. I also give frozen fruit/veggies when training. But neither of my pets are fed anything when the human family eats....it's either before or after.

Yes I share little bits of healthy things with Jackson!! I had to learn the hard way not to over-do it. Jax was basically a garbage dispoal at a family gathering one night and had sausage from the pizza, a piece of a chocolate cupcake that had dropped on the floor, etc, and landed in the hospital.. $1500 later... now I only share little bits, things like chicken, PB cracker, plain turkey, a little cheese here and there, etc. Our vet says moderation is fine, just avoid anything too fatty, spicy, etc, and of course the poisonous things. I do admit I have a begger on my hands though. If I was living by myself, I probably would've done things differently, but it's so hard living with kids, and also having such a food motivated dog, it's nearly impossible to keep him from eating any human food, so it's just one of those things.

Happy to hear that Jackson was able to overcome the family gathering. Unfortunate that it was soooo expensive. I've read that chocolate is a no-no, especially for these guys. That's ok with me, as I really like my chocolate and don't like to share anyways. haha Here's hoping that Jax stays well during this weekend of food and with Christmas coming.:aimeeyork:aimeeyork
