Found yorki Found Yorki that almost got hit by car 430 am on way home from work...picked her up ..shivering dirty long toenails and her hair all chopped...took her home and she was exhausted and slept continually 20 hrs..had a big limp when walking..took to groomers and vet..was told she was probly abandoned starving and obviously not well taken care of,..only had a couple back teeth..vet said she was ANCIENT..15 yrs plus..I am afraid if taken to animal shelter they will put her to sleep..she does not limp now..think the long nails caused that..she has adjusted and has healthy appetite..vet said she is probly on her last days and to make her comfortable and give her love...also she has not barked since I found her...for got to ask vet about not barking..any thoughts out there or advice as to how to handle food and exercise..thanks |
how awsome of you to help this poor dog out, I would start with some wet food, it is more bland than dry and the exercise I would just how the dog tolerates it, I would start slow. You could get dry food and wet if down to see how she can eat |
Bless her little heart.....Thank you for giving her love and kindness and shelter, especially if she is in her last years.....Did you check to see if she was microchipped? I guess there is a chance she is lost from a loving home.....maybe was taken or lost from people that really loved her.....on the other hand, managed to escape from a life of Hell, and what a shame to return her to that. Love this noble, proud, spunky lady, so that she can indeed live out what ever time she has left, in warmth, comfort, loving, safe arms. Bless her little heart.....give her a kiss for me. I would just keep feeding her as you are, I would add canned food to make eating easier for her, with so few remaining teeth. |
You are an angel to take her in. I agree. Please have her checked for a microchip. Someone might have lost her and still looking. Big hugs to you. You are meaning her days wonderful again. |

Bless you for taking in this sweet old girl. Your story sounds a lot like mine. I too found an old, neglected Yorkie. She turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened to our family. She was sweet, gentle, and grateful for any morsel of kindness she was shown. We had Lucy for 22 wonderful months. We miss her every day, but feel so blessed for the time thal she was a part of our life. Let your new house guest lead the way. She will let you know what her excersise needs are, as well as her food preferences. Please stay and keep us updated as you settle in together. I wish you both all the best. You're an angel. |

thank you for saving her....my lola took six months to bark when she first arrived. she may just be awaiting feeling completely safe and comfortable to bark. |
First of all, THANK YOU for picking this poor baby up and taking care of her. Bless you!!! I have a 5 1/2 month old yorkie that has only barked once since I got her at 12 weeks. I wouldn't worry about her not barking. |
I agree with the others...if she's only got a few back teeth, she is going to probably do best on canned food. Dry food could be hard or impossible for her to chew. You could try a senior formula for her. There are lots out there.Mine is on Wellness Senior canned....although if she is underweight, you may want to feed her something with more nutrition, like puppy food. I would call and ask the vet about that one. At her age, with a limp, I don't know how much exercise I'd give her other than letting her go outside to go potty. I am so glad you took this little old lady in....I love senior dogs!! |
Thank you so much for saving this baby. I had a foster Dakota that seemed like she would not walk. Turns out her nails were an inch long. After they were cut she walked much better. If you cannot keep her, do not bring her to the shelter. You can contact rescues that may be able to help. We have some YTNR volunteers in Vegas if you need help. PM me if you have any questions. |

I am glad you were there to save her from such grave danger, care for her so lovingly, and can give her a loving home in the event she truly needs one. It is sad to think anyone would treat such a baby so badly then turn her out when she grows old, but I know it does happen at times. If she is merely lost, again, you have helped her immeasurably, regardless. There are some decent canned food products that she should have no trouble eating, and she will find her own exercise routine if nothing more than following you everywhere...which my Yorkies do! :D I believe she will reward you for your kindness with her sweet, immense love, devotion, and loyalty. |
