Holistic vets? Vaccinations? I have been checking into holistic vets. Does anyone else use them? What and how often do you have your baby vaccinated? I have read that it is killing our pets. I don`t want to load my baby up with pesticides and poison. |
i believe yorkies being as small as they are should get one vac at a time. i bring mine back a week later until we complete them. mine react a lot better this way...or not react i should say. i have read many pros and cons for the holistic vet and i think it comes down what works best for the belief of each individual. there are none close enough for me to try...if i have an emergency i dont want to be an hour away from my vet. |
We have a natural holistic vet. We love our vet. We have to give jasmin shots bc she gets groom at petsmart and they required it. |

I don't find the need for a holistic vet. They have their place. But I go to a regular vet and still do minimal vaccinations and what I believe in. I prefer regular vets. As far as puppy shots I think those are very important and should not be skipped. As far as adult shots go I think Dap should be at least every 5 years but some vets do every 3 but it is definitely not needed every year. Rabies you will have to do what your local law says. If Lepto is your choice you need to research and see if it is a problem in your area my family had a goat die of Lepto so I do it and if you get it its a yearly shot. I also do Bordatella because most groomers require it and I take Callie a lot of places, she gets the inter nasal one yearly. Lyme is again your choice I used to do it but we moved and Callie is not getting bit by a massive amount of ticks like she was. With small dogs it is best to only do one shot at a time. |
For me and I live in a very big city there is only one dual registered vet. That being a degree in holistic medicine and the regular DVM. It is the only type of holistic vet I would go to. Natural remedies, and allopathic medicine each have their place in the health care of dogs and humans. I am a kind of a middle of the road person, and do do lots of research first. Over vaccinating is not something I do, so I titer. Titering can be done with any regular vet, and does not need a holistic vet to do. How-ever it is more expensive then just blindly doing what ever booster shots the vet might advise you to do yearly. Lepto Lymes ,bordatella, and Corona certainly need to be looked at given the location you live in, and if you need to board your dog etc. |
I have a holistic Vet and a DVM for Buster. He just had his first Titers done. For me living in Los Angeles I have a greater access to different Vets. I believe a good regular Vet who doe not over vaccinate and gives the vaccines spaced out is just as effective. My holistic vet is great but if there was a serious issue she recommends a Vet with advanced diagnostic equipment which she does not have at her office. I do not take Buster to a groomer, he is groomed at home, or board him. |
