Yorkie athleticism How fast is your Yorkie? I am fortunate to have a field and woods nearby where Bessie can run off the lead. And she is fast! During walks I let her drop back maybe 50m behind me before I whistle her in. But I usually don't need to, and if I do she responds nearly straight away 90% of the time. Then she sprints in at full tilt, leaping over obstacles and for the joy of it, passing me on a free run by about 20m. Then doubles back, so pleased with herself. She is faster than a lot of bigger dogs so maybe her honorary Greyhound/Lurcher status helps, but I never expected a Yorkie to be so athletic. Even for a big'un. -- Stephen. |
My older one only runs when it's time to go to bed and he runs to the bedroom. My younger one has a jet pack in his butt!! I can't believe how fast he is. It amazes me when he's racing around the house!! I wish I had a fenced in yard so I could see him run outside:( He goes for walks on a leash, but I really think he'd enjoy zipping around a yard!! |
I noticed that Zoey seems much more agile than Magnus. As for speed... They are pretty fast. Maybe it's b/c Magnus is bit chubby but seems like he can hold the speed for a very short time. |
Teegy can always out run Tufty, I think it's more a desire not to have his ears chewed on hahahaha, but compared to my friends Chinese Crested, they are slow, he's a race horse |
Callie is extremely fast and she is a little on the chubby side. I have never seen a dog as fast as her and she has short legs. She also only knows one speed fast so there is many times of me holding my breath. |
Jamie is really fast. At the park she has friends that she plays with. Charlie is twice her size at about 22lbs ( a terrier mix) and she does the zoomies to gain speed and then just jumps on him to pin him on his back. Truth be told he lets her do it because then gets his sniffs in. Today Charlie and another much smaller yorkie boy were ganging up on her but she held her ground. She is really tough and muscular. The vet said her back legs are like steel. But then she walks at least 2 miles every day. |
Ellie is either going wide open or nothing and yes she flies and so does Lilly Anne! I haven't seen many dogs that is as fast as they are. She usually goes so fast that her back legs can't seem to catch up. They make my heart stop sometimes they go so fast. |
My Charlie is lightning. We have a huge dog park that he gets to run loose. I've seen him outrun huskies, labs, collies ! Everyone typically has the same reaction..Holy S*it ! Our vet couldn't believe the muscle on him, said he's never seen a yorkie built like that. Not fun when it comes to getting his shots, cause there's not an ounce of fat on him ! |
1 Attachment(s) Jax is very fast!! I've clocked him at 18-19mph riding next to him on the four wheeler (with a fence in between us). This is what they do, lol, and this is when they were really tired, they had already been running for a while. |
My Cookie Monster is crazy fast. When I first got her I would sprint and see if she could catch me, and she was always a couple of steps behind. But now, there is no way I can catch her when she wants me to chase her. |
I don't have a dog park I can take Maggie to. We take her to the community college up,the street on the weekend and let her loose in the baseball field because it's fenced. We throw her little tennis balls and she runs like the wind from right field to left field and back again. She loves it. We always bring her water along. When she is on her flexi leash she also zooms sometimes. She plays with her boyfriend sometimes by running up to him then zipping away in a big fast circle and back in to him. He is on a regular leash so he really can't chase her and she teases him. It's hysterical. People are amazed at how fast she is. And sometimes she does these rolling sort of flipping turns. I bet she would love agility. I hope the running is good for her knees. |
Joel is so fast when I don't want him to but is so slow when I want him to be fast:rolleyes: |
