New Member Hello, I am new to this forum. I had a yorkie many years ago and since I am now retired, I am looking for another yorkie as a companion dog. I have been scouring the internet for up to date information and have come across a new idea for feeding dogs -- the raw food diet. I kinda like the idea of this and would appreciate any information or recommendations from actual yorkie owners on this subject. Thanks and look forward to hearing from fellow yorkie lovers. |
Hello and welcome to yt!! Good luck in your search....I don't have a lot of experience with raw feeding. I tried and my babies like it for about a month then would not touch the raw medallions. I know some think it is safer until one year of age before starting on a raw diet. Hopefully others will add more pertinent info. :) |
Welcome! |

I'm glad this is not a complete "no-no" as I really like the natural approach of this kind of diet. It seems like a very good idea for large dogs, but I am not so sure about small dogs like yorkies. I am glad to hear from someone who has actually tried it. |
Welcome and if you are looking for companions check out the Yorkie Haven Rescue site. The have 2 adorable Yorkies in GA that are a bonded pair. Maybe they're waiting for you.;) |
Since my first post I have come across another post called raw vs kibble and boy what fireworks. I had no idea there was so much controversy regarding the different types of foods. I have read all the replies and I don't think I want to get into all the bickering. |
Hi and welcome! I have a 14 week old yorkie and a 3 year old Standard Poodle. The poodle has been raw fed since 8 weeks old, and the Yorkie gets 1 raw and Acana Small Breed Puppy as a meal spread throughout the day. The kibble is hand-fed for training purposes. I have gotten a TON of great advise and opinions at this forum ... Dog Food Forum |
Oh I hear you. Everybody has a right to their opinion. In the long run we all want what is best for our pups. (whatever we think that is):D |
