Yorkie wearing clothes when I'm gone? 1 Attachment(s) I took his sweater off before leaving for work just because I'm not sure if I should leave it on ? Someone told me he could get tangled in it, but I feel so bad taking it off. It was 50 outside, and 73 in the apt but I was cold so I figured he was cold too! Anyone here leave clothes on when theyre gone? Awww I hope it warms up soon, I'm in Florida so it's always warm in the afternoon. |
I'm not sure how he could get tangled in that... unless maybe if he chews on it or something? If you feel uncomfortable with leaving the sweater on, how about giving him a blanket for him to burrow in? That's what Zoey usually does. And then when the heat comes on, she'll lay on top of the vent. :) Do you know if Bentley prefers warmer or cooler temp? Magnus for most part likes the cooler weather so I don't put a sweater on him if it's like 70. Zoey would shiver in that temp so I put a sweater on her or wrap her up like a burrito when we go out. :) |
That sweater is adorable! And sure, I'd leave it on when I leave. So long as I know the house won't warm up too much while I'm gone. I wouldn't want the little one baking in it. |
I started a similar thread recently. Here is the link to it... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...nattended.html At one point, I wouldn't even leave a collar on my dog when I was gone... but this fall I was worried about my younger guy getting cold and was leaving clothes on him. After reading other people's responses on the above thread, I decided it was best to leave my boys naked. The chance of them getting caught up and hurt is probably slim...but because it's a chance, I'd rather not take it. I've been putting my fleece robe on the couch for the boys to curl up in. They love it bc it's fuzzy and it smells like me. I am thinking of getting a heating pad(not a plug in electric one) for them as well. I know that animals do get caught up, not just from stories, but experience. I've found my cats collar off her at least twice because she got it caught on something. Thank goodness she has a break away collar or else she may have choked to death. Unfortunately, the boys don't have break away collars...so that means they come off when nobodies home. |
If it fits properly he shouldn't get tangled in it heck he probably goes to sleep after you leave. |
Bentley's sweater is adorable but I would be afraid to leave him, unattended. It's snowing here so Yazmin's wearing sweaters, but not when she's alone. I've put well fitting sweaters on Yazmin and have seen her get tangled up many times! She lays on her back and wiggles and before you know it, a leg has come out of a arm hole! I see how confused and stressed she becomes when that happens also. :( I feel much more comfortable leaving her with a blanket, no collars or clothing on. |
I always leave waffles clothes on when I leave her. Keeps her warm and calm. |
Ian's favorite chair is in front of a window, so when it is cold outside, I do keep a shirt on him because he likes to rest on the window sill. So far, no problems!:) |
Charlie always wears clothes I dont take them off when I leave. as long as they fit properly and the nails are trimmed so they dont get caught if they scratch there shouldnt be an issue. :) |
I tend to avoid leaving lilah in sweaters for the same fears. We took care of a sweet little chihuahua for a while before lilah came into our lives, he had his very small collar on and I thought it was ok because we were around- thank goodness we were! It slipped up over his jaw and got stuck in his mouth, he could have scratched his eyes terribly or broken his jaw ( which I had read about) I was horrified. Collars only with supervision. Here we are going into winter though and lilah has a very short haircut and we have wooden floors and sweaters are not immaleable straps of leather with sharp buckles, her toes are trimmed, her sweaters fit well and I think it will be okay for her to wear them. Huge deciding factor: lilah stays in her ex pen when I am gone. She has a pink princess palace with an upper floor where her good and water love and the lower floor has a cuddle cave with her fuzzy dog bed and she has a potty pad. I think if she had free reign of the house where she could get stuck on this and that I might not feel the same way about sweaters though.... |
Argh autocorrect: food and water live |
Pao has been in his shirt/sweater during the winter when I am at work. I know he shivers when he is cold and we try to keep the house warm for him but I think he is most comfortable when he has his sweater/shirt on. Never had a problem in 7 years. I think the shirt just has to fit well. |
