Can yorkie eat salmon fish? Hi yorkies lover.! My yorkie having diarrhea on & off almost 1month. Brought to vet for 3x and Dr told me he having parasite so gonna change his food too Hill Prescription Diet i/d dry, it almost made by "by-products" :( so I thought of mixing some salmon fish with his dry food... I heard omega is good for their fur & skin... Any advice please share... Appreciate & thank you :) |
Dogs can do really well on fish, yes. But since your doggie is have digestive issues, maybe you want to wait until that's resolved. Is he on medication for the 'parasite'? If you do add fish, add no more than about 10% of total diet, or you'll throw the balance of the food off (the kibble is AAFCO balanced). |

I would also like to add the following: 1. The salmon must be cooked. Raw salmon can make your dog very sick or even kill them. Salmon Poisoning Disease 2. Most dogs can tolerate salmon and but a few can't. In the morning, I feed a commercially prepared raw food. In the evening, it's kibble. The brand of kibble that I use is Nature's Variety, and it comes in various different protein sources -- chicken, duck, venison, salmon, beef, etc. and I rotate between the proteins when I open a new bag. One of my dogs, which I got when she was a pup, has used all of these without issue. I got the other dog when he had just turned a year old and he had no problems with any of the food until I opened up a bag of the salmon kibble. He had no problems with his morning raw meal, would readily eat it and keep it down just fine .... but about 2 hours after eating the salmon kibble in the evening, he would throw it up. It wasn't even digested. It was like his digestive tract would shut down and reject it. My other dog had no problem with it. So now I don't feed the salmon kibble anymore, not because salmon is bad, but because it just doesn't work for one of my dogs and I want to feed something that works for both of them. This doesn't mean that salmon won't work for your dog, it works fine for one of mine, but I thought you should be aware of it just in case. |
When the vet prescribes a prescription food when a dog is having issues its best you go with that your dog may not be able to handle the the stuff that is in most holistic foods. |
Jess loves some coho fresh salmon when we have it. Just a few bites but boy does she gobble it up |
