Introduction. What breed is this? 1 Attachment(s) Introducing Bessie or Bess (as in Good Queen Bess, Elizabeth I). This little girl, originally named Elizabeth, came to us via a local Greyhound/Lurcher rescue charity (facebook:- Evesham-Greyhound-and-Lurcher-Rescue). One of a litter of six rescued at approx. 2 weeks old on the 4th January this year(2013). The mother sadly did not survive her abuse but all her pups made it. Now some 10 months later, weighing in at 11 lbs and full of attitude, she is my constant companion. -- Stephen Nb: photo is from March'13 |
Awww, what a cutie. I'm so sorry to hear that her mother didn't survive, but she Bessie was lucky to have found a home with you. I wish I could help you with your breed, but I just don't have an eye for that kind of thing. |
She's absolutely adorable. I bet she'll bring MUCH joy into your life! It's sad her mom won't get to live the life she deserved... but at least her pups will. :) Thank you for rescuing! |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Bessie is darling, and such a lucky girl to be rescued by you. How much does she weigh, and do you have a more recent photo of her? I would say her coloring looks like Yorkie, but the shape of the face and ears more resemble a Shih-tzu, or she could be a mix of Yorkie & Maltese (Morkie). |
She looks like a yorkie mix... (not sure with what) and she's cute whatever it is! |
I would agree this isn't a Greyhound or Lurcher! Certainly looks like some kind of yorkie mix. Welcome to YT! She is adorable in the pic. Can't wait for updated photos! |
Seems like she's a yorkie mix and a pretty darn cute one at that! |
She is adorable to me. Looks like maybe a Yorkie mix. I have adopted a little girl that we named Vivi that was a flat out stray. I wanted to know her breed, so asked for a DNA packet for my birthday. Found out she was a min pin. It was a great present for me, not that it really mattered, I was just curious. :) Also, welcome to YorkieTalk! |
More photos 3 Attachment(s) I confess my question, What breed is this? was somewhat tongue-in-cheek. The lady responsible for the 'rescue' is of the opinion that both parents were Yorkies. And I do put a lot of store by her judgement, both as a County Dog Warden of 20+ years of experience and as a tireless worker for the charity she founded. I weighed her myself a couple of weeks ago at 5kg or 11 lbs, so she is 50% bigger than 'standard'. But she does slightly have geography on her side as it is only two hours drive from here to Yorkshire :) I think she is all terrier, probably with some Border or Jack Russell in the mix. I recently took her to the groomers for a Border style cut. However, irrespective of breed 'purity' both my wife and I love Bess dearly. Last photo taken on this morning's walk. -- Stephen Ps. thanks for the welcome. |
I can't tell...definitely looks like yorkie, maybe yorkie mix. The first picture out of the last set really looks like a yorkie to me...but I am no expert. You'll find plenty of Yorkies here that weigh over the breed standard...and they are still Yorkies. 11 lbs is still fairly small for a dog and totally within the possibility of being a yorkie. I am glad to hear you adore her either way...she sure is a cutie! |
She is a cutie pie for sure, and I am glad she survived along with her litter mates. So sad their mommy did not survive, however, she seems to have a great home with you. She might have some Llasa Apso...to go with her inheritance from the Yorkshire Terrier, too...no telling where she got her attitude if that is the case...they both have some similar personality traits. :D |
