I'm going to be a new Mommy! On 11/23 my new fur baby will be coming! I am SO excited! I have never owned a Yorkie before, and after much research I couldn't be more excited to really experience this exquisite breed! My girl, Starlet will be 5 months old when she arrives. I plan to feed her Stella and Chewys freeze dried patties, and wonder if I should be adding any supplements to the food...vitamins, salmon oil, etc? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. She is currently almost 3lbs and has an expected weight full grown of 4-5 lbs. :animal36:animal-pa:) |

Stella and chewy is complete in vitamins and minerals for dogs....I feed mine Orijen kibble and S&C. I was feeding a puppy formula but he was really finicky and is now doing well on Orijen and S&C.. |
Congrats! I have heard you should not feed raw to puppies because there systems are not ready for it. |
S&C freeze dry formula uses a process that kills the bacteria in raw food....I think it's safer than a raw piece of chicken...my baby does well but he was transitioned slowly. |

Welcome to YT! Congrats on your new furbaby! You will never want another breed again, yorkies are it. I would have a house full if my hubby would let me. He thinks 2 dogs are plenty. |

congratulations, I'm not familiar with that brand of freeze dried raw (I'll go have a look), depending on the ingredients. You should have 80% meat 10% bone 10% organ (5% of which should be liver). Some raw add veg which are not required in the diet, I recommend if you want to give your dog veg then do it as treats. Make sure you give a pup 6% of his/her body weight and when they pass puppy point it's 2-3% of their body weight. Okay I had a peek, they have an abundance of fruit and veg but doesn't say how much so I can't really comment, meat and bone excellent, they have probiotic, I don't see organ meat, but see Taurine. Looks decent I've also heard good things from people who feed this to their dogs. I do recommend that you rotate the variety, dogs get different proteins and vitamins from different meats and make sure you rehydrate thoroughly before feeding. the Lamb seems to have an abundance of delightful ingredients sourced from the animal. Congratulations! What has she been eating. Has anyone mentioned that you need to transition them slowly to a new food if she has been eating something else. Can't wait for pictures! |
Thank you, all! And you Teegy, I appreciate you taking the time :). She is currently being fed Iams proactive :/. I have read to do the transition slowly, but then I've read if your changing their food to raw it's better to do it all at once! Not sure what us right or wrong. :confused: |
Welcome to YorkieTalk and congrats on the new addition to your family! Don't be afraid to ask any questions you may have and please be sure to post pictures of your baby when she arrives!
