OMG I saw the saddest thing at the dog park today :-( So I was at the park today with Gizmo today, my first time since I fell and was injured. All was going great, Gizmo was making a gazillion doggy pals as well as people pals and playing, which was awesome because I met another yorkie that he is now going to have play dates with :-) her name is coco and she is also a rescue that is 2 years old that is 5 1/2 lbs and Gizmo is in love lol. That was the best part of the day and I was so excited !!!!! But anyways, as Gizmo and coco were romping around having a great time playing, they became like instant best friends. We were watching them play and all of a sudden, this woman walks up with a very tiny dog on a leash. It took me a few moments to realize it was a yorkie, because it was all one color, very very blonde almost white, and the poor thing was so so tiny. I approached the woman and asked her some questions, like how old he was, how much did he weigh and such. He only weighed just under 2 lbs and was 4 years old, she said yes he's very small because he's a micro, the most sought out of the breed, like she was so proud of it :-( she also offered up the fact that she paid $3500 for him because he was so "RARE", I was so sick to my stomach due to rescuing Gizmo from becoming the same thing. I realized that's what would have happened to him, if he had not come close to death, and the byb freaking out trying to get money out of Gizmo before he died :-( The poor little yorkie had no color, just the very very light blonde, like all the color had been lost from genetics of The breeder doing this over and over. It's bones looked so fragile like it would literally break if you even touched the poor dog. She also informed me he has liver shunt, LP, and occasional seizures. I said that must be terrible, and she responded, well it comes with all yorkies :-( The poor dog had no personality at all, in fact just looked very sad and ignored anything even going on around him, like he could care less that he was at a park where all these other dogs were so happy, playing and just enjoying the nice sunny beautiful day we were having. It was like his personality was just to be an accessory and he knew it :-( I can say this though, I am so so thankful I was able to rescue Gizmo from a similar fate, and it put it right in front of my eyes, what happens to these pups, when someone succeeds in creating this "MICRO" yorkie. I was just so thankful I have him and he will always be safe and loved :-) it really made me appreciate how much I have fallen in love with Gizmo and that he's in my life and no one will ever be able to hurt him again xoxo |
Oh my gosh. I am not plain spoken but this is one time my mouth would have gotten me in trouble with this lady. THat poor baby.. Makes you sick. What is wrong with people? Its like they don't care if they are healthy just tiny. Ugh!!! |

That's just so awesome that you have given Gizmo such a good life. Redondo Beach must be such a great place for Gizmo too; that was my go-to beach when I lived in LA. |

I am glad that you are up and about, as I'm now stuck on the couch with a possible broken knee cap, and glad that Gizmo has found such a good friend. I still need to check out the dog park close to where I live, but it's going to be a few months before I do. Cheers Quad & Giana:aimeeyork |

How is Gina recovering from her surgery? I hope all is going well, and sending healing thoughts your way for you both to recover quickly xoxo |
Gina's doing great, her incision looks great, and with the onesies she can't lick it. As for me I'll call the VA on Monday and see if I can get an appointment for my knee, figures the only part of my knee that's still me, is what gets messed up, but I guess I should be grateful that it's not the replacement. Thank you for the well wishes, and I'm glad Gizmo got to go out, but sorry for you hurting. I know what it's like to do too much too soon. Cheers Quad & Gina:aimeeyork |
I hope you told her seizures and all that are not "normal" in yorkies. |
Sad Sad Sad |

Aww, yeah so many people don't bother to get educated but the best we can do is help educate them and not judge them on their ignorance they can't help it, they've been conned by the bad breeders. When I got my girl, I was told she was the runt of the litter, and the smallest puppy out of all 3 litters the mum had ever had. Her litter mates were bigger, and she was not purposely bred to be tiny. I knew what I was getting into, she is a very healthy puppy though and I did not pay more or less for her based on her size, actually she was very inexpensive compared to what people pay in the US for yorkies. Someone who brags about paying a lot of money for a tiny dog doesn't know, they don't have the education and think it's normal, they don't see the con artistry in it, or the fraud. The poor puppy is in ill health and most likely came from a unscrupulous breeder that was purposely abusing poor dogs to make tiny puppies without caring for the welfare, and seems like they were greedy as well, charging that much for a runty sick little pooch. Next time, if you see her just be nice and help her understand, educate in a nice way and perhaps direct her toward this website or somewhere she can get help and information. I can't feel bad for her because it sounds to me like she is just as much a victim as the puppy is...If she knowingly went and got a 'teacup' dog, knowing the health problems and not caring at all because she wanted a fashion statement, then yeah I'd be angry too but it just sounds like a case of misinformation, fraud, uneducated owner. |
Some people really just don't know and others just don't care. When we first moved here last year our neighbor who is a very sweet lady came over and was admiring Kyra and Laddy. She said how pretty they were and then told me her daughter has two but they are teacups. Mind you Kyra weighs between 2.12 and 3lbs depending on when she eats. She said her daughters both weigh around 2lbs but have shorter hair so look alot tinier. Since then I have been able to educate both her and her daughter about this. So far her daughters pups have not had any major illness thankfully and I pray they don't. Then there was the lady who I feel knew better but was one of those who used her "possessions" as a status symbol, who looked at my two like they were diseased and told me "Mine is a teacup". I just looked at her and said "No such thing" and walked away. |
I think in a none rude way I would have told her seizures are not normal and that yorkies are just yorkies no matter there size but sometimes I'm over spoken on dog stuff :) |
I actually told her Gizmos story of how he almost died because of what the breeder had done to him, and that no it was not the breed that causes those things, but the way they are bred can likely lead to them. Unfortunately here where I live, is right next to palos verdes, it's like the Beverly Hills of the coast, and people do purposely buy these pups as accessories. You see them quite often in my area, and unfortunately it encourages breeders to keep up the practice :-( if you look for yorkies in Southern California on any advertising sites, like Craig's list or the recycler, there are tons of people selling so called micros and teacups :-( |
My daughter hates it when we "run" into someone like that. I have been give the "evil eye" by her because she KNOWS I will say something. It bothers me she really thinks that her baby is normal |
That is so sad!!! |
I feel so sorry for that pup :( |
I am a little confused on the micro mini thing...so they starve these dogs to make them that small?!? I know that lack of food can stunt a dogs growth because I am fairly certain my Ricky is so small from starvation...but I don't believe they were trying to make him a mini. I think he just had horrible doggie parents. In LA, I bet there are lot's of people who spend way too much money on overpriced, undersized dogs. I wonder if she bought the dog on one of those online puppy brokers who buy their dogs from Korean puppymills. If that's the case, $3500 is relatively cheap compared to some of the prices I've seen. Some of those dogs are going for $8-10,000. I sort of think it's funny that she was trying to brag about it because buying a puppy like that is SOOO not something I would brag about or be proud of...she doesn't even realize that she got totally scammed and ripped off. It's sort of like bragging about your designer purse that's a total fake...or bragging about your hot boyfriend who's a felon with a prisoner number...when you think you've ended up with the total prize, but what really you've won is the booby prize....that's what I equate her bragging to. I guess in a way, maybe it's a good thing that little puppy ended up with her. If she paid $3500 for it, chances are, she's got the money to throw down on all of it's various health issues as well. |
This is so sad :( I wonder how long it will take before people realize how much those doggies suffer. |

I do know for a fact that not only do they breed the runts to get small pups, but they then take them from the moms and only give them enough nutrients just to keep them alive. I know because Gizmo was one breeders failed experiment in doing this, and he was extremely close to death. By the time I got him in my hands and the 20 mins it took to get to the vet, he was in a coma, a hypoglycemic coma from being starved and having absolutely no blood sugar reading they could even gauge on the test. His gums were pure white :-( it took me 36 hours of high glucose treatments every hour around the clock before he finally started coming too. I could feel every bone in his tiny little body. The vet had told me if he had gone an hour longer, he would have been dead, and she was about 90% sure he would not live through the night. She even asked me if I wanted to humanly euthanize him, because if he did survive, it would effect him for the rest of his life. She is totally amazed now that just a few months later, he now weighs 4 lbs :-) of course we don't know what damage it did internally but we are hoping he will stay healthy now, and were willing to what ever it takes to keep him as healthy as we can. He only weighed 1 lb 4 Ozs when we rescued him. Not nly could you feel all his bones, but he lost one of his upper adult canines and most of his hair fell out do to no nutrients going to those places. Here are a few examples of how people sell them here in SoCal . Micro Love - Micro Tiny Teacup Yorkie puppies for sale in Palmda Teacup Yorkies, Teacup Puppies for Sale, Yorkies for Sale, 954-324-0149 It's really sad that these people are able to conduct business this way :-( it just makes me sick. |

Hugging my porkie yorkie even closer tonight. I can't imagine someone purposely starving a dog to make them appear smaller. :unlove: |

What was she doing taking a little thing so fragile to a dog park, he doesn't sound at all happy, and you should have put poop on her face. I'm with the rest of them on this not cool |

proves once again there is fool born every hour. Here she paid $3,500 and does not even seem upset by the pup's health. Did she say what she did about his liver shunt, did she have the operation for him. I wonder if she feels the same way about paying vet bills as she did about the purchase price, chance are she cuts corners with vet costs. I know lots of people like the tiny frail look, personally I am happy I don't. I gravitate toward the standard size between 5-7 lbs and sturdy so you can play with them. People have been messing with yorkie colors, she may have bought the pup as a Blond yorkie, I know someone that has a white one, and several that have chocolate colored yorkies. And the saddest thing of all is, since their are fools like her wanting undersized yorkies people will continue to breed them and then charge more. |
