hair in their eyes new to yorkies, How do these guys ever see through the hair and how does it not bother their eyes? My Yorkie also seems to "yell" at the other dogs for rough housing. Is that normal? It is mainly after I corrected them. he is a hoot. |
My older dog gets after other dogs for playing. I call him the "fun police" because of this. It's because he can't handle the excitement...it makes him aggressive. Ceasar Milan says that dogs naturally want to be in a calm submissive state, so maybe he is trying to get other dogs to return to this calm submissive state. It reminds me of a parent correcting a kid though.... My younger dog constantly has hair in his eyes. We are in the middle of growing it out after his foster mommy cut it. I put it up, but he just rubs and rubs until his bangs fall out. |
I have several dogs that each have assumed some aspect of "policing" activities in the house. I have 3 that will run to me when the phone rings, like I dont hear it....they want me to stop and answer the phone immediately! I have a couple that are in charge of the toy box....when I put toys away at noon, getting ready to put everyone down for naps, they do not allow anyone to get back into the toy box to retrieve a toy. And I have one that also seems to get upset by pups playing too aggressively...like they may be fighting rather than rough housing, and she wants me to make them stop! Dont you love these little creatures? |
Yes I do. Bailey is so fun! He is just wonderful. :aimeeyork |

They definitely have a personality trait that is surprising in all aspects. I would say to never cut the hair near their eyes. Unless you want to constantly keep it short. Using vase line I heard helps to weigh down the flyaway near eyes and face. Hope it helps. Good luck & welcome to the yorkie world.!! |
We keep Gizmo's hair pretty short so he does not have long hair in front of his eyes. He is also an enforcer. If Cici is getting in trouble he comes up and nips her legs or grabs her by the scruff (she is 3 times his size so this is quite hilarious). |
He will leave his hair up when he gets a little older. Trinket used to fight me to put her hair up, now she just sits there with her head up. lol So cute. |
You can either let the hair grow out or keep them trimmed. While you grow them out, I think some ppl suggested putting something like vasaline to weigh the hair down so it won't get in their eyes. Just make sure the eyes are kept cleaned. Or it might cause some issues. :) |
I use a child's barrette to keep the hair out of Zoey's eyes. It bothered her at first and she'd scratch it out. BUT...I'm nothing if not persistent, and she eventually had to give in, lol. |
